This hobby is expensive as you let it be. There are so many gimics out there. People read about there product and find it a miracle. But later find there tank is in no better condition than it was without it. 90% of the products i sold in 2010 are out of business. And all the new ones you see now will be gone in 10 years. I never owned a reactor, wavemaker etc. Fancy i ever got was a skimmer and UV for my fish systems. I never used a QT system and never lost anything. The same with my customers unless they didn't listen to my advice. And the last i was in business mark up in your LFS is 400%. I could buy a Niger Trigger for .50 cents in Indonesia and then when it lands in LA it is 12.00 and when it was in your LFS it is 49.99. One example of keeping it simple is one eldery customer i had she had a 150 tank. It was the most impressive tank i ever saw at that time. There was not one place for another coral and all that ran it was a good power compact a couple powerheads, heater and a cannister filter. The moral of the story is keep saltwater simple as possible. Its not how you can spend it is how efficient you spend. We should have a poll. What water do you use in your tank: Tap, RO, DI
