Everything is gotten expensive

Easy on the politics. This is a friendy reefing discussion.
Politics is what keeps this hobby alive, as much as i dislike politics, we have to fight to make this hobby a reality, and not something that only the "rich" can afford to enjoy.

I work for myself, and have to wake up knowing I don't have a job to go to. Meaning I have to come up with something creative to do, to make my daily earning.

That is your opinion and you are sharing it.
This is headed off of the rails and I don't want to see the thread get shutdown for violations of the TOS.
Also, my comment was not directed at you specifically, this has been riding the edge for a while.

I get a kick out of people who speak ofthis inflation like it's some kind of fantom or boogey man that just appeared out of nowhere. When in fact it was very well planned, coordinated, and telegraphed right in front of our own eyes.
yes indeed... A shadowy cabal of used car salesmen devised a plan to artificially inflate the price of used cars by 40% year over year.

Gas drives price up quickly and it has no sign of dropping. $5.00 a gallon coming to a town near you soon!
It is now about $575.00 to fill my boat with gas. I guess I will go out and buy oars this summer.

Problem with higher prices si trhat consumers get accustomed to them and they never come down. Why my haircut now costs $25 when a few years ago it was only $16. Get that less visits requires price increase but will they lower the price now that the pandemic is over and patronage should return to pre-pandemic rates? Probably not. Only way that happens is new competition or consumers stop paying exuberant prices.
Whose to say $16 wasn’t too cheap? This is the problem with this topic and always will be…

who should expect to keep less and spend more? You or them?

among other things - I raise free range chickens and sell eggs to high end restaurants in town

based on my last months feed bill I will be losing money even with a 10% increase in eggs prices

feed comes from a feed mill 3 counties away

don't see the feed prices dropping any time soon

amino acids for a fish tank are pure luxury - and pay for it if you like - but realize this is a real problem for all industries big and little

As I stated. I grasp raising prices when patronage is reduced but then lower them when it returns to prior levels. Otherwise that’s price gauging.

As for me or them? It’s always going to be me. Only a fool would make another better off. That’s just not how it works and I have a background in finance. Perhaps that’s altered my thinking but does seem most I’ve met think about themselves first.

If you own a boat that costs $575 to fill up then inflation shouldn't be a problem for you...

and if you think supply issues are not real and not a significant part of the of the price increases I suggest you go to BRS and look for a controlled power head "in stock" status and find something you think you would like to buy today

You are wrong. You do not need to pay to play. You are getting caught up in advertising and social media. Stay in that lane and yes, it is expensive. It doesn't need to be expensive and there are plenty set ups running for years and decades that follow common sense.

Inflation is real as is the supply chain issues most of us in the world are facing but outside of that my statement above stands. The hobby is only as expensive as one makes it. It does not have to be though.
I totally agree! I have a dominant sps tank thriving off of some pop bloom lights and instant ocean salt. I dose cheap seachem 2 part. Also have a diy sump with a used bubble magus skimmer. Been up and running for years without issue.

I thought Boat always stood for bring out another thousand!
It is and I always say that if you own a boat, you shouldn't complain about the cost because no one needs a boat. I wasn't complaining, just stating a fact. ;Smuggrin

It probably isn't as much of a problem for me as it is for much younger people. At my age I am retired and already made my money to last me the rest of my life which ,again, at my age, probably won't be to long.

Inflation is certainly a big problem, but we can't talk about that here. ;)

In case nobody has noticed. Demand based pricing is a thing now. Theme parks charge more for the same experience during peak times. AMC has announced popular movies will have demand based pricing. Toll roads cost more during peak times etc... So expect more and more things we use to have demand based pricing in the future.

I agree they do, including store owners. Which is why it’s a dilemma… which side is supposed to think of others?

also, if I can sell 10 widgets at 50, or 7 widgets at 75… how am I harmed? That’s what we’re seeing now… the equilibrium moved

I own a lawn/landscape business. To put things into context from a business perspective. I will not do any work for less than $50 per man hour. By the time I pay for fuel, wages, taxes, maintenance that's the minimum for me to be a "business" otherwise it would be for beer money. For example you pay your lawn guy $100 per month to mow your small lawn. Weekly it takes 20 minutes or so. That averaged around $50 hour for 2 hours a month on your property. A $12 hour employee costs the business double the wage after taxes and unemployment insurance etc.. I am licensed and insured if I were to damage your property. It goes on and on for small businesses. Consumers have been spoiled for years with race to the bottom pricing on everything. Businesses can no longer exist under those conditions. In the past businesses would absorb what they could. That's no longer possible.
