Fatmike's Sexy 57 Rimless

Alright here is what I go so far! I havent put any pictures up because I am way to critical of it. I think it is just ok. and because you cant see all the benches and ledges from the pictures! (I cant wait to get my Nikon 3200 and be done with cell phone pictures)

So here it is

I learned this from a friend and always like it. put some vasoline under the rubber slip and when you tighten the bulkheads it squeezes out the sides and then you smooth that around the edge and it creates another nice seal and barrier

I would leave some room near the glass so a magnet or my hands could get razor blade clearance for cleaning .
Those look like the factory bulkheads . They don't work . I trashed mine and bought new different ones at the LFS when I got my tank .

I'm a little concerned with not having an overflow box. If you got a crack around a bulkhead you would essentially lose your whole volume instead of shutting off the return pump and only losing the overflow volume. Also, I personally would leave some space around the glass for cleaning. Loving the scape so far can't wait to see the pillar. I wish I had done a little more research before I started my tank, I love the way the macro rock looks.

yep that is a risk for sure. I am still worried about drilling the back because I believe the back glass is tempered. But I am going to look into that more. Im waiting for a response from Deep Blue if it is tempered or not. if it is not and I am safe to drill I will but if not im going to stick with my plan! because trust me I would love to not have those pipes in there. and that would make the pillar much easier to construct

and yes I will leave plenty of room to clean on the sides it all depends on what algae magnet I get.

It's not tempered in the back . u should see a sticker on each pane that indicates such . Maybe this will help

Ha I was literally just looking at that!! thank you!

well my buddy has a hole saw! so looks like there will be some drilling in my future! now I am nervous.....

suggestions on plugging up the exisitng holes?

1 small well sanded good thickness glass on the inside of the tank . Some silicone will work . I have done this before . I made sure to flip the tank over n fill the holes with silicone too . I smoothed it over so it didn't look so messy . Help up with no problems . Beats capping off those bulkheads, but that's another story or option . LOL

so are you saying a thick square piece of glass on the inside? and then silicon around the outside of the glass square and then silicon underneath the glass square through the hole?

Silicone under the glass plate plop it over the hole
Silicone around the glass plate
Flip the tank and fill the two holes with silicone .
It is what I did .I had no issues .

how think of glass did you use?

Great looking build so far, I know I'm late and just started following but had a quick question. The cement you used, is that a special kind for aquariums or just your every day cement that you could pick up at the home depot? Thanks man

Hey no problem at all ask away! But I got the cement from Marcorocks. Honestly I couldn't tell you what the difference is at all but it works great and they know what they are doing so I trust them

Haha I'll see what I can do! Glad I can help and glad you like it!

No problem!

I love my local hardware store. It's run by this very nice older couple and they are so helpful and have everything!

So I got my glass piece to cover up the existing holes. I'll cover that up today.

Also snagged some plumbers putty for drilling!

And some silicon. I asked for food safe/ nontoxic

Is it?

Nice thank you! I went to the LFS and grabbed some all glass tank silicon!

Don't use that! Any of the Bath or kitchen ones have chemicals to kill mold. I think GE 1 for doors and windows is the one that is safe.
