I was busy with swap stuff, so I haven't checked in for a few days. Looking great! It is fun to see your build coming together and see all the great advice you are getting from people on the forum along the way. The best part is seeing you incorporate their advice into your build! Keep up the good work!

It's one thing to get good advice and blow it off because it's not what you wanted to hear. It's refreshing to see someone actually research and incorporate when someone gives them sound advice. It's coming along nicely now!

and thanks guys! this is my first true build and I plan on keeping this tank for at least two years until my fiance and I get married and build a house so I really want to make sure I do it right.

and what better way to do it right then get advice from people who have the experience!

Ha the more im this hobby I realize though no matter how much advice you get youll never understand it until you mess up the advice you were given lol

Ive messed up a lot this build lol but I now have the experience so I am much more comfortable doing this now!

You can read all you want but until you get down and dirty with it and make a few mistakes, you never learn. I've been practicing on nanos for the past 3-4yrs. I'm just like you, waiting until I get married (this summer) and get a house. Then, I'm going all in on my dream setup.

Ha exactly my point! but im glad to finally be getting this experience so I can help out fellow reefers like everyone else has helped me!

Alright I got all the plumbing the way I want it! I painted it all black so that way it doesnt stick out. Mike told me to soak it in water for about a day so that way If any were to come out from the paint it will do it now and not in the tank!

ill get some pictures once I put it all in place

Also we finished painting the front room so ill finally be able to put the tank in its finally resting place!

Mike what paint did you use I picked up some Kryon spray paint for my plumbing so I'm second guessing it it.

Krylon fusion paint is definitely the way to go. Just soak it like I am if you want to be safe

I could not find krylon anywhere. Just rust-oleum spray paint. Which is why I'm going to soak and then dry and then soak and then dry and then soak and then dry!! I'll do that for like a week. Just because that's what OCD tells me to do lol

But I've read several threads of people using krylon with nothing but success

Yeah down in florida that stuff is all walmart seems to carry lol

You could set up brine shrimp hatcheries/ grow outs, copepod buckets, greenwater(phytoplankton) raisers, just get those ready to run for when your tank is up! If you plan on using any of those things that is haha.

I'm in Arkansas and both of my local lowes didn't carry it. The only place I could find it was walmart. But when I was doing my plumbing, I didn't have time to go get the krylon so I used the rustoleum stuff. It's not that durable. I have scratched and chipped mine all up just from installing it.

Alright where do I put the tank I have two spot open that work!

Option 1
Here which is on the left side of the front door which we barely use. Sun light would hit the tank though it come from the reflection off another window from the room extending off the house.
- best part is that the outlet is right there and I can hide it all with my ATO reservoir I am getting from atomic reef.

OR

Option 2
Here next to the window where it will get no sunlight at all. but the outlet is a little far away

I like option 1 the best. what do you guys think?

Eh it's looking like option 1!

Just seems better since I can hide all the wires and cords

Yea option one. Tanks close to a window like that for me just don't look as good.

Alright I am going to grab a 20 gallon tank or something like that and use it as a sump until my real sump comes!

ha that way I can get it going and get some live rock in the sump and get this baby ready!

Nope. but yes I will be putting a strainer on it and extending it up with some attachment so that way the water level is higher where I want it. its not just going to be that elbow
