What is i??
Just a way of keeping as much water in the DT when the power goes out, or when I turn off the return pumps for any reason, it eliminates the need for an anti-siphon hole drilled into the return tubing.

It's a set of check-valves used in reverse, with a 90-degree end cap screwed into the end and facing down into the water...

Ah. Its a more advanced anti back siphon

Yeah when the pumps shut down, the amount of siphon is minimal, I will admit I could have archived the same results with a 1/2" check-valves and minimize the over-all foot print.

That's awesome
am I right in thinking it's a basic HD flapper valve?

Yes that's correct, I will also add that you will have to select the ones that can be removed (disassembled) for cleaning or cover (next tweak) them with something to eliminate algae growth and keep them working properly.

you had to say "return pump". that's exactly what I've been pushing off on the 150g it's such a pain to remove and clean but, it MUST be done, I'm off!:bolt:

Yup, once a yr is the norm for me as all the return pumps I have are external.

Mine is internal and in this case a pain. I need to clean it atleast quarterly. When i made the return pump section I should've made it a bit larger... wasn't thinking about having to get in there to remove. At least I added one of these!

Looks like you might need to block the light growing all the coralline algae, maybe a section of black plexi could help?

Yeah, just on the other side of the baffling is an ATS with a light on each side of it. I have a couple of pieces of black plexi... need to go hunt for it. This coraline came about in just the last couple of weeks

When I decided my return, I made two exactly the same pump and the pipe up to the union. So when its time for clean up, I just uncrewed the union and slided the other one in its place.

Big thx to The Coral Reef LLC, in Stratford, CT... picked up a few fish and cheato... not exactly on my list but, no way I could pass up a deal like the one they're having this weekend!!!
