Fishcrazy06's 72 bowfront and fishroom build thread

Well the tank is taking a lot longer than I liked to clear up! Not sure why or what but I didn't rinse my sand. Normally don't but by the next day its normally clear.

Anywho there is going to be a little change in the setup once again! I will be getting a DDNW250 Octopus skimmer to run on this tank! Super excited about this. Didn't think I would ever get such a nice skimmer but something came up I couldn't turn down!!!!

I added some liverock to the tank tonight. This thing is going to be a beast to aquascape I think due to the background of foam and how I have tonga branch hanging down from the overflow! Hard to tell if I like it or not as I have a Hang on back filter hanging on the front running filter pad to clear up the tank! I promise pics to come soon!!!! Just need to get it cleared up some and get the filter out of the way!

:feel_good: Well its all up and running now. I have the light rack built and hung the pendants today. Drilled yet another hole in the living room floor! (hopefully the wife doesn't realize there are 3 of them back there now) and ran all the wiring to the basement for the ballast.

Wasn't to sure at first if I would like the 15K XM bulbs. However, now that they are up and running I do like them a lot. Nice blue but not too much.

I did some aquascaping but like I said earlier with the foam background its kind of hard. However, I think I may like what I have. Looks good. Kind of almost like a cave or overhang if you will.

Well enough with the talking here are a few pics.

Thank you very much!!! Finally a post from someone outside our club!!! WOO HOOO....

I also noticed in the pics you can see there are no doors on the front of the stand. They are here I just need to put them on. I used them open door spots to crawl through and do all the plumbing and Etc.......not the best way to do it but it worked out!

I really like the way the light hanger turned out. How much did that set ya back? Probably the least expensive piece of equip you'll every buy for the tank! Looks slick for the cost of some conduit and paint. I'd get some small black zip ties to hide the cords along the hanger arms.

Are you going to stick frag plugs into your foam too? How many GPH flow? What's the plan? SPS, LPS, mixed?

Gotta get some corals under the XM's to appreciate the colors. If you do a search you can find some nice tank pics running them with stunning colors. Are you supplementing actinic lighting of any kind? LED's?

Right now I think I am a little over 1000GPH through the tank! I plan on starting out with LPS and the eventually SPS. I plan sticking different kinds of Zoas across the top back of the foam by the overflow.

I plan on doing the black zip ties in the near future. Didn't have any at home. Didn't want to stick the white ones on there and have them stick out like a sore thumb either. The light rack cost me about 3.50 in paint. The conduit was free from somewhere.

I don't know if I will be able to supplement with LED's or not. The way the light rack is made and how much the Pendants take up I don't know if I could implement them into the design. Time will tell.

I think the aquascaping worked out pretty good. For just basically throwing the rock in it turned out probably best out of all the tanks I ever had. I think it is because of the Foam background. It just seems to work. Not to mention there are lots of Nooks and crannies for the fish to cruise through. I added most of the fish already as well. I may change a few things but time will tell. As for now I am happy!

Looks really good eric.1000gph total? i was at 1600 or so when had the koralias in my breeder and didnt think was enough at times.I have now idea what im at now with the vortech though.

KEEP THE PICS COMING

There are no powerheads in the tank right now!!! Thats just with the return pump Jason! Which I plan on hooking up to an OM squirt as well.

We will see!!!!! Wife called me and said the fish love to swim in front of the return pipes and get pushed around!!! Can't wait to get home!

Well I got the doors on last night which was one of the last things to do for the display aspect of the tank. So here are a few more pictures.

Good Job Eric, all that hard work and research is really starting to pay off:bigsmile:

It will be quite a blast watching that tank mature and fill up with corals.

When did you get that Scopas Tang, it looks pretty small.....right now anyway:haha:

Harry the light hanget is made out of 3/4" EMT conduit and then bent to the dimensions I wanted. I then painted it black. However, with time constraints I would have done one thing differently and may end up doing this. I would highly recommend taking a sand paper and lightly scuffing up the conduit and then priming it before painting. Other than that I have to admit I like it more than I originally thought. I will also be using black zip ties to tie back the cord from the pendants and make them more invisible.

Thanks for complements Paul and Spike. When Spike says Friggin sweet I am stoked. Awesome when an artisitc guy like that says that!!!!!!!
