Fishy Business aquatics

It's baffling to me. You go to most fish stores in my area and once you buy that fish it's yours. If it dies you won't even get a credit. Fishy buisness has made adjustments but is hiding nothing which I like, transparency.
I agree. My petco has 4 sw tanks and the poor fish look to be in terrible shape. It upsets me and I don’t even bother to check out their livestock.
I needed to buy some prazipro and the manager had no idea of what I was looking for. I’m in a small market, only one other fish store, and I will not buy from him.
I understand in a large city petco may have a good selection of healthy fish, but the again no guarantee..

I just ordered 10 fish from them and one coral frag. One fish arrived doa which they refunded. The coral frag is a very nice size for the price. 1 inch by one inch cyphastrea for $17. The only thing I found really bad was I ordered a dragonet which died 4hrs after arrival (not cover by guarantee). This fish should never have been sold it was so skinny it probably died of starvation. I question their business practices for selling such a poor quality animal. But I am happy with the 8/10 fish that appear healthy and the coral. Can’t beat the price or the promptness of the doa credit refund.

Wondering what the experience with this company has been this far?? Looking into ordering from them!

Personally it was a pleasure doing business with them. They located a hard to find speciman. Kept in contact throughout the sale and the fish arrived well packaged and healthy.

I am not going through the whole story but I am no longer a customer, and have been ordering for a while. If you order from them be absolutely Scrupulous in your inspection and do not remove any fish from the bag until it is thoroughly inspected. I recommend LiveAquaria because they stand behind their product.

I had a good experience with them and I'm super critical and have been around a long time. I got a yellow spot scorpionfish which is rarely seen and a very difficult fish to acclimate. He came in strong and eating right away and has been flourishing for months. I really crack up how many people hang on that 2 week guarantee, with the tricks some of the vendors pull with a low sg and med cocktail, many will live just pass that 2 weeks. You are still out the shipping charges, and most only give you credit, and then you have to order from them again to take advantage of the guarantee. One vendor i ordered from and every time stuff died, I lost so much money it was ridiculous, even though everything had a guarantee.

I will order from these guys again when they get something in I'm looking for, they are the only ones right now I will order from.

I’ve ordered Potter’s wrasses from them on 2 separate occasions (4 total). They all did arrive alive but barely. One did survive and is doing well despite not having an upper jaw. The other 3 basically came out of the bag, sank to the bottom and were dead the same day. No guarantee aside from live arrival on them. They are obviously difficult fish but I think at least a 24 hr guarantee would be nice. I did send them a message about one from the first order just floating to the bottom and looking near death and their response was basically, hope it improves. Died about an hour later. Tough to accept losing $120 fish within an hour opening the bag. I agreed to the terms when I bought them so I guess I can complain. I don’t think I’ll be ordering again. My goal is to have a trio of Potter’s but I’ll hold off till I find them from a source with at least some guarantee.

I agree on atleast a 24hr period. Not a fan of adobe alive only for fish.

We are sorry to lose you as a customer.

That being said, as you have been purchasing from us for quite some time, you know that our prices are typically much lower than our competitors because the livestock guarantee is optional. You can purchase a 7, 14 or 21-day livestock guarantee at checkout on most livestock. Because we are structured that way and because sadly many people kill fish during acclimation, DOA must be DEAD on Arrival, not just distressed, breathing heavy, etc. We do our best to only send out healthy livestock and we ask that customers examine the fish in the sealed bag - prior to acclimation - and IF they see any signs of illness, deformity, skinniness, etc. to take a clear video of the fish in the bag documenting the issue and send it to us within 2 hours of delivery.

In your case, the day AFTER you received the fish, you sent us two photos of the fish (looking down on them in a bucket) claiming that the Swallowtail Angel had a bulging eye. We asked for a video of the fish with a side view, in the tank, so we could get a better look - you said you couldn't provide that because you were doing a tank transfer and kept the fish in the bucket for a week. You did then provide a video of 6 fish in a 5-gallon bucket - 1 Swallowtail Angel, 1 Convict Tang, 1 Yellow Tang, 1 Powder Brown, and 2 Scissortail Gobies. The bucket looked to be about 6" to 8" inches deep. Although this may be how you quarantine your fish, we have never seen this method before using a bucket, much less with so many fish, in such a small amount of water and for a week.

When we send fish to a customer, we have NO idea what their skill level is, how well they acclimate or quarantine, how healthy their tank is, etc. Ideally, everyone knows exactly what to do and has perfect tank conditions. That isn't reality though and we can not offer low prices AND free livestock guarantees. Because we do give people the option to buy at lower prices with only an Arrive Alive guarantee, we must know IF we have sent a fish with an issue before it is acclimated OR it must be truly dead on the bag.

If you feel you need more time, that is when you should purchase a 7, 14 or 21-day livestock guarantee.

The Potter's Wrasse and some of the other rare fish we carry are a Catch-22. People love that we carry them, but get upset when they die. These fish require expert care and we do not want to encourage people that cannot care for them to buy them. Expert care means not just your average hobbyist, but public aquariums and advanced aquarists. Very few vendors sell these fish because they are SO hard to ship and keep alive. The other vendors that we know of that do sell them only offer an Arrive Alive Guarantee also. Without expert knowledge, most of these fish will die during acclimation. We do have customers that buy these fish and successfully keep them alive without issues.

We are considering offering livestock guarantees for all livestock in the near future - no restricted livestock - but the pricing will be risk-rated.

We understand that some people are not comfortable with an arrive alive only guarantee, which is why we offer 7, 14 or 21-day livestock guarantees for people that want them. As we stated above, we cannot offer the low prices we do and accept the risk of people killing fish during acclimation.

I get that they are tough fish. I keep plenty of very difficult wrasses. This was not an acclimation issue. Again, I knew the risk when I ordered. Not blaming your company. Just ordering a fish with a doa only guarantee isn’t a risk I’d take again. Especially not on a fish that is drop shipped directly from a wholesaler.

Just a suggestion on your difficult fish. Why not put up proper acclimation procedure that will enhance the customers ability to succeed with those type fish? Or how about on online course they have to pass before they can order those types of fish? Even a list of necessary equipment before they can order with pictures required of said equipment before accepting the order. I know that may make you look like the fish police but it might just prevent the problems outlined in this thread and your response to them.

In long term shipping situations the customer needs to know the tricks of the trade so they can succeed.

We totally understand what you are saying and we will be announcing some new offerings soon that you will appreciate and will give you the peace of mind you desire for fish exactly like these.

Excellent suggestions, we have recently been talking about developing a series of videos like you mentioned. Thank you! We will definitely consider if/how to do courses and if customers would be willing to jump through those hoops.

Thank you fishy business for being so active and part of the community. I'll be a customer for life. Now just to wait for some of the fishy to be back in stock!!

I ordered 2 fish from them this week, delivered today one was beautiful and the other was barely moving and upside down gasping. I took a pic and pulled it out amd into an acclimation. Bucket and used an air stone to help deoxygenated the water (the bags were half filled with air and spongy so they can fit in a smaller box) I eventually got the one fish to sit upright and I put it in an acclimation box in my tank so he wouldnt get harrassed. Hes been laying on his side hard breathing for hours now. Sent them an email with a picture instead of their specified 30 second video of it in The bag and another 30 second video of it on a white background ...(watch their language in their doa policy) to tell them that I dont think the fish will make it. And i was told "well i dont know how long you've been in the hobby but wrasses dont ship well" lol I've been doing this a long time. Any fish wont do well if it cant breathe... they told me it's not DOA and I didn't purchase the extra warranty (but I did buy the stress free shipping... thought it was the same thing) so basically there's nothing they can do but they will see if they can do something if it dies... wish I would have read reviews before I spent almost 200$ bc apparently their reviews are mostly bad. I probably wont ever order from them again. They said they price fish cheaper then LA but if you add all the warranties then they're the same price point. I said no you price things to compete. Not to add this and that. As a first time customer. I'm not happy. Sucks. Bc I was really looking forward to 2 nice fish I've been wanting to add to my reef for a long time.

I'm not trying to bash, I usually dont post much on forums. But I'm always on, just want people to be informed... some people have great experiences. And it seems the complaints are pretty much all the same. They're happy to take your money but not really big on making it right when it goes bad.

What type of wrasse is it?
