Flukes?

I was planning on another round of Prazipro. Should I follow the same dosage amount or increase it a bit?

I would only dose as recommended on the label (1 teaspoon per 20 gals I believe?) Some have gotten away with overdosing, but some have also lost fish from doing so (especially wrasses.)

I always read it would kill fan worms but they are all still thriving and made me worry. The blotches are starting to disappear. The originals ones from the top towards the latest near the bottom of the fish. The outer edges of the fins are frayed but do not seem to be getting worse.

I have lost a few wrasse while treating with prazipro in a QT. Not sure why this happened I thought it maybe from a bottle being opened for a while. While it had not expired per the date on the bottle I suspect it had something to do with it interacting with air between uses. I now buy smaller bottles and use only new prazi each time I treat. I have overdosed almost double with no ill effects, however I do not recommend it. Bottom line, buy a new bottle, its cheap.

Prazipro can kill tube worms, feather dusters, bristle worms, etc. But normally these are minimally impacted.

What would you recommend if flukes are suspected in wrasses? @Humblefish

Prazipro. But you want to take great care not to overdose it with wrasses. If in doubt, underdose.

No sir I wouldn't ever. Copper in my mind is a last resort to treat fish and will come no where near my DT.
Thank you for the responses

After the first and second round of Prazipro the emperor got better. The blotches disappeared and torn fins started to heal.

It has been a few days now since I did a water change after round two. Something else seems to be affecting it. It is hanging out near a rock sometimes floating vertically or hiding in between rocks. I see an open wound near the dorsal and a blotch on the side of its mouth which is a grey color. Eyes are cloudy. It has been eating but appetite seems diminished.

HLLE?- With the discoloration.

With the open wound I'd be worried about infections though- especially with the cloudy eye (classic bacterial infection). Kanaplex, Furan-2 are both good options and should be done quickly i think.

^^This. Secondary bacterial infections can become a serious problem for fish already battling preexisting parasitic & worm infestations. The immune system is already busy battling the latter (and compromised to some degree), so when harmful bacteria strikes next it becomes too much for the fish to handle. Especially if it happens to be a gram negative strain. Very dangerous to an already sick fish. Many people I know who have ich in their tank manage that problem just fine, but eventually lose a fish here & there to a secondary bacterial infection. :(

I suspected bacterial as well. The problem is trying to catch it for treatment.

It is probably not HLLE since there are no pores in the head. None of my tangs (Naso, Regal, Sailfin, Yellow) have issues either.

You can soak a broad spectrum antibiotic such as Kanaplex in food so long as you use a binder (ex. Seachem Focus) to prevent it from leaching out into the water. This makes it reef safe.

I have both and will definitely try it. My angel loves pellets.

Focus directions are a 5:1 ratio to bind with food. How much food and Kanaplex should I mix?

Ok. so this is a hard one for me to answer, but I'll tell you what i have done in the past. I used frozen food, i know your using pellets though, and I did 2 cubes with 1 scoop focus and 1 scoop kanaplex. My reasoning being that not all of it would soak into the food itself. I drained off the moisture and fed the fish. Being that your using pellets, you would add some rodi water to them to mix in the meds then drain it off before feeding.

I would just add 1 scoop of kanaplex to the food

Its better to dose it to the QT because it gets obsorbed into the skin of the fish much easier and faster, especially if the fish isn't eating at the time of treatment. If that's not an option then feeding is a good alternative.
