FoD's Über 250DD Build Thread

Here is the bottom painted and wet sanded. The top remains in the garage. I still have to do all the glaze accents.

Where are you guys ordering your doors from? Great build by the way, you definitely have an eye for detail!

Thanks. It is coming together. He ordered his doors from RawDoors.net. I most likely will be doing the same. I quality looks great, and the cost is less than most low quality competitors.

WOW, very impressive.
Cant wait to see finished.

You and me both! Thanks.

The canopy section is finished. I need to wrap up a couple things before placing it. I need to finish the light rack before, since I cannot get it in or out with the canopy in place. Time to order some parts!

It keeps looking better and better! Maybe you could do this for a living, making canopy and stands for built in tanks? You might have to look into to shortening the finish times though lol, but seriously looks freaking sweet!

Thanks...and no chance in hell I'll be doing this for a living! :D It turned out pretty good. I think it's one of those looks great from a few feet away, but once you get up on it, you can start to pick out mistakes. And that is the difference between professional, and my woodworking skills. But, if someone was willing to pay me to do it, and promised to only view it from 10 feet away, I'm down!

I do it for a living! :D
I just invested more time on this last build of mine, because like I said, its the last build of mine. Unless I go smaller, the new Innovative Marine tanks are gorgeous.

Well this will be the last build in this house. If I buy a new home in a few years, I'll do another. If I stay here, this will be my last build...minus the cube tank for the wife. She wants the strangest fish! And none of them like flow or light, which I have A LOT of each!

By the way, I beasted the canopy up this morning, but I am too tired now to take pictures.

Haha it's funny you say this, setting up my wife a cube as well, going 60g rimless. And I have had to beast up my canopy 3 times now because she goes to bed before I'm ready to put it up!

Take a picture already!!

Well...that didn't happen. I ran out of time. I have the accents 80% done and have only the canopy over the prop tank to hang...it's built. Light reach built, hung and programmed. All swimming livestock transferred, corals still remain in the old 120. I'm gone for a couple of weeks, so pics after. This is starting to look like an 'evolved' progression thread.

Safe travels friend! I just got back myself! Ready to get back to work!

Excellent build thread! Besides the beautiful setup I enjoyed the comments like "square peg round hole" and "religious fast". Almost spit out some coffee :)

Following! Going to be ordering my 250 DD this week because their 45% off right now. Ching. I can feel the weight of things to be done on this tank and so on. Looks like a great setup you have. Curious about those ATi's you have too.

Been a while since I updated. Nothing really of note other than I contracted Velvet from some snails I ordered. And before everyone says it, no, I didn't QT my snails for one simple reason. NO ONE QT'S SNAILS! WHY WOULD YOU?!

Anyway...lost almost everyone. Currently living are C. katoi, C. rubrisquammis, M. meleagris (pair), P. attenuatus, and 2 C. viridis. Nothing else has changed with the setup. Still lacking doors on the cabinetry. Still haven't finished the lighting. Still haven't transferred any coral into the DT.

Waiting 4 more weeks just to make sure no more Velvet. Then I'll be contacting my valued online vendors for a C. earlei, C. cf. lanceolatus, C. rhomboidalis, H. iridis, H. richmondi...and that's just a start. Need to replenish the ranks!
