For those that don’t QT, why not

In my experience (a lot in freshwater but not much in reefing honestly) nothing is better for battling fish disease than the fish's own immune system and the biggest thing that effects their immune system is stress. So I think putting them in an unnatural tank for weeks and then putting them in another tank that frankly might have something in it that could kill it that I don't know about would be counterproductive.

That and if I set a QT tank I would just make it a permanent tank cause I have a problem lol

which foods would you recommend for this type of set up since i don't plan to run a QT unless i need a hospital tank
I currently have probiotic spirulina flakes but thats it other than that ive fed frozen mysis since im lightly stocked atm
edit: I've also seen people mention soaking food in stuff like garlic or something called selcon? can you elaborate on that for my slightly im still new to the hobby
I use LRS foods, I soak them in selcon vitamins. The food itself is very healthy as well.

ah okay do you have any experience with rods fish food?
I've never used it personally. But I know Larry for many years back before he started his business. He started making food on his own bc he didnt like all the shells and "ruffage" that was in rods and other foods that didnt have enough of the beneficial nutrients. I know with LRS you'll never find shells or skins that aren't beneficial to fish. I know I'm explaining it wrong, but I was told by people(I've not experienced it peronally) that they have had shrimp shells as part of their rods food mixes. Where I know in LRS its peeled away and you only get the meat. He also adds in roe and other vitamins. I know alot of aquariums and breeders prefer LRS over any other foods. So that says alot to me.

Fresh clams every day and a homemade blend from fresh oysters, mussels and shrimp that I purée and freeze.

Good bacteria every day

Ah okay i think one of the LFS not too far from my may be an LRS vendor so thats good ill probably go pick up some

To be clear is it just separating from your dt (observation) or PVC pipe medicated or both?

Full QT, separate tank and all.

It’s nice to see everyone not doing QT does realize the amount importance of diet.

Let’s not lose track of the main question of why we don’t.

I never said why I don’t.

When I first started in the 80’s I knew nothing about QT or anyone that did it. As years progressed I never thought about it until a few years back. I never did it before, so why start now?

I see no value in creating an environment that is not like the one it will live in.
Agree

No space or $$$.
Why acclimate a fish into an environment, get it settled and reacclimate it somewhere new?
Only buy great looking fish, if I'm hesitant I'll get lfs to hold it for a few days.
I usually acclimate fish into my refugium. It feasts in Copepods for a few days to fatten and observe. If it's healthy and puts the weight on quick, it moves up to display.
Never had a problem.

Haven't QT in 30 plus years. Just adds more stress to a fish IMO, and that could bring stuff on that otherwise would not. Put them in their final home as quick as possible so they feel comfortable, not stressed in a bare QT tank in most cases.

Buying fish in a LFS I never needed to. I am thinking about it now that they come in the mail.
I recently got some very poor specimens. Once they go in the tank you can never get them back out without tearing it down. LA shipped some in blacked out bags where you couldnt even see the fish until you released it.

I missed it somewhere what does LRS stand for

I have an observation tank running all the time. Live stock goes into that before my display. If I see something questionable, I'll move it into a qt. That said, I only buy fish from 2 lfs. Corals come from those 2 lfs or one of 3 trusted online vendors. I haven't had to treat anything in a couple years now.
