It seems so common knowledge these days but the #1 advice I was ever given was back in the mid 80’s when John Burleson suggested that I try actinic O3 lighting.. the results where amazing! blue lighting was a real revolution at that time.

Best advice I’ve ever gotten.... get a bigger tank. Wait.... that advice was given to me by subconscious. Probably the best advice I e gotten is “leave it alone.” I am a worrier. In my world doing more turns into doing too much. Patience is not one of my best virtues.

BTW... I have one of those ULNSs. I tested today.... nitrates 0, phosphates very low.... cant remember exact number. How do I get those numbers up a bit. Corals will grow better in “dirty” water.

True.... QT is good. After all these years I only just set one up. It’s only five gallons but it’s a start. And I only have little fish. Since I lost my butterfly and tang I’ve decided to never own any thing larger than an average clownfish. But it may be too late. All my fish are coming down with velvet and dying one after the other. Very sad.... Get a QT. And dip your corals.

Keep a written log book: what you do to the system (e.g. maintenance, new equipment, replacements, switch in salt or additives or methods), measurement results, additions (or departures) of fish, coral, rock, etc.

I’ve gone back to my logs as far back as 5 years ago to look over experiments I did, how I did calculations, or the lighting I was using back then (when I felt some corals were doing better). I also have pictures on
my PC with dates to match the logs. Not as organized as I wish, but with a little detective work I can get the answers I need.

I believe for me it was adding a Refugium great for nutrient control some times a little too good, great for pods to live in and easy.

Best advice was QT after I made the mistake of not and ended up with a tank full of sick fish.. @Humblefish @Brew12 and several others really helped me out when I needed it.. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without this forum.. thanks everyone who is constantly helping the ones out that need it whlithout being mean about it..
