Gem tang price

Also around then petco would carry them as they were getting fairly common hence the dropping prices and you could grab them at petco prices stacked with the 20 percent coupon on saltwater fish they would run sometimes.
Wish that was still true. Mine had a powder blue today and it $150.

I’m not crazy about gem tangs. I don’t find them pleasing to my eye, but that’s just me. I know I’m part of the minority here.

No dude. I feel ya. I wasn't crazy about em either when I saw em 1st. No way i woulda payed the $2.5k for one.
But after reading some of these posts and people saying they are the most beautiful fish they have... glad I purchased mine at the price I did.
Shoot I like $50 convict tangs for crying out loud! Lol.

Convict tangs are pretty. They look like a zebra.

First time I saw one I thought it was a very beautiful tang. The guy was selling it cheap for $800. Seems like they were fetching $1200+ around 2016 (i'm guessing). I watched them as prices dropped but I have a purple tang now and I'm not into gambling on fish gladiator spectacles.

Living hard with two yellow, purple and a sailfin. You'd think it would be battle royal but it's not.

I have achilles, gam, 2 purple, 3 yellow, blue, royal gramma, copperban, anthias.... some other. Everytime I ask my guests who have no clue about reefing, what do they think most expensive fish in my tank, out of 10 times, only 1 Pointed out to gam tang. Cheap 30$ royal gramma took best vote from my guests.

Curious what everyone would.pay for a gem tang?!
I recently purchased one and haven't received it yet but I believe at 1 point in time this was a $3k fish. ??? Am I mistaken?
What would you pay for a gem tang ay?
Ty all and reef on!

At one point it was a 5k fish.

Recently pricing has dropped to 3-500 for a small-medium specimen. I believe in the UK they are £350 for a 2-2.5 inch specimen and the price can go into £700 for a 5-6 inch specimen. Personally I wouldn’t pay that much for a gem tang - Anampses meleagrides is much cheaper and shows the same patterns. But it’s all about opinion on how much you like the fish.

Interesting how everyone just tells me what the lfs is selling them for or how much the fish cost around them but not telling me what ud actually pay. That was my question people
How much would you pay? Not what's it going for around you...is this the world we live in now? Lol.

How much would you pay for a gem tang? Or what's your cap on a fish?

About $500 at the moment retail.

It used to be over $1500

The max id pay on a fish is 500-700 but it HAS to be a fish I would be willing to buy (For example Cirrhilabrus jordani).
For a gem tang, honestly because I don’t even see what’s so special about them (In my eyes they’re just a bland Madagascan fish) so I wouldn’t pay more than 100 for one - even that’s pushing it.

Me and you've discussed this before and I know I'm kinda spoiled due to my location but there is one pricey fish I'd want and that's a flame angel they're the equivalent of like $150 here

Got mine from @Jersey Corals delivered on Tuesday 8/23/2022. $480 shipped.

PS - he is my avatar.
That's around the right price..

I think people pay ridiculous amounts probably because they have gem in their name.

I think a scopas tang is a much better looking fish

Definitely! Scopas seem to be very overlooked in terms of colour but aggression not so much.

You think they're agressive or not agressive?

Mine has shown no signs of agression and he's in a 75g with a foxface. They are best buddies.
The foxface was first and the scopas was tiny but they would have baby fish if they could :-)

Highly aggressive is what I know they can be. The scopas is one of the worst with aggression when it comes to new inhabitants.
