A 250 mile round trip got me this one yesterday. They had better pricing, but just as important was supporting a localish ship. The whiter pic was last night and the other two are after about 24 hours in my tank. My 10 gallon tank, since I’m in the middle of rebooting my 150.

Per some discussion with Anthony Calfo, he suggested that placing a clam inside a clam shell with gravel around it is ideal, so I did just that. The clam's byssal threads were just starting to cling to the sand that was on the rock so it was an easy move.
I purposely left plenty of open area for Clams when I set this tank up. The fact that a single Gigas might end up taking up all available space, is fine with me- We've all waited long enough to keep them again.

To quote OP "These guys get big, really big". When I sold my last Gigas, I was concerned it was doing to blow the seams on the tank, as it was almost 2 ft & only liked to sit pushing against the front & back glass of my tank.
Enjoy your new addition-I've always thought they are the most beautiful of all the species, not because of the size, ( or that they've not been available for years....well maybe) but the blue dots can just pop against the more subtle mantle colors.
Is that a Leng SY Monti top right of pic?

The only half decent pics I've found are in post #16. Below is the only other pic I have & it was only around maybe 18" at that point, as it was pressed up against the overflow & almost to the front glass.
To be honest, I had lost interest in the tank at that time, as it had gone through 17 days without full power (had basic life support running via generator) due to Hurricane. I lost all my SPS, but the Anemones & Clams never skipped a beat !
What is that yellow thing under the Derasa clam?Got mine via my LFS. Their distributor would only allow them two. They held one for me & had sold the second before I even arrived. Placed it on a piece of shell in the sand, next to the other clams. All clams sitting below 250 watt 14K MHs. Tank is 30" high.
This T. Gigas appears to have the classic blue dots (I had to use glasses to see them, but they are there) so it should hopefully be very similar to my former Gigas that I sold almost 10 years ago. It was pushing 2 ft in length at that time. Here are some poor pictures of it, that I had to screenshot as couldn't upload. It was probably "only"around 15" at the time these pics were taken. If the new guy makes it & ends up half as nice, I'll be very happy.

just got my Gigas clam today!!!!! has some catching up to do next to the Derasa. I run a bare bottom tank so i built a flat rock surface that it already attached to within a few hours. Cant wait until it gets massive.

Congratulations on your beautiful Gigas clams! They are magnificent creatures. However, I am predicting a resale market when they start to out grow their tanks, and the necessary bioload it takes to maintain a successful reef along with a massive clam filter stripping the tank of all NO3 and PO4. I can tell you from almost 12 years and 30+" of growth keeping mine in a 550 gallon heavy bioload it is no easy task. I dose 3 cups of CACL and 3 cups soad ash a week. Plus 1/2 cup of lab grade KNO3 a week as well, and still the tank has undetectable levels of nitrates. Also don't be apposed to feeding them. You will notice a difference in the mantle coloration and extension if you do regular phyto paste feedings once every couple of weeks, or when it is stressed. I will have to try and get a photo today, but it's really hard to get with how the sides are in my tank, but it's been just over 2 weeks and there is a considerable amount of new growth!
