I got 2 Gigas a week a part. Here is the picture of the first on after he is in my tank for 11 days. amost 2 mm shell growth. I irritated the mantel a little to cause retraction of the mantel so I can take picture of the shell.

Here he is without irritation.

Wow looks amazing! What I am really happy about is two of us have measurable growth, so if nothing else it would seem the Ora facility has a healthy batch of gigas!

Wow, I have never had a fireworm, did it kill the clams overnight or how did they appear when it was going after them?

I did not know that ORA breed these T. gigas. I though these were imported from clam farms. This is neat. I wish they also breed Crocea and have these Ultra Crocea for sale again.

Since everyone is starting with the same size clam. I would be curious to see the growth and color differences under our different types of lighting. Mine never really cared for just LEDs long term. After a few months of use the mantle would be less colorful, and wouldn't extend as much. It could be something with my chemistry, age of the clam, or the LEDs I've used. I now use a hybrid 250watt MH and 2 Hydra 52 HDs. I am curious to see other results. So what type of type of lighting are you using? (If you haven't listed it yet)

I use Radion Pro either 2,or 3 generation. One 4th Pro. 8 over my 6 foot tank. My clams have alway did well with it. Now I have them in the sump under Kessil 350?

This is a Gigas grow out thread, so here are pictures of my two Gigas. I got the first one in my tank on 7/10/2019 and the second one on 7/17/2019. The first on did very well and start to grow right away. There is no significant border on the shell between before and after arrival into my tank, other than change in coloration. Of course, to obtain this growth rate, we must supply them with adequate Ca/Alk
It is different with the second one. He arrived really cold and took several days to recover. Even now, he does not open as much as the first one, but he also have start to grow again. Definitely, there is a ledge that separate the grow from before and after arrive into my tank.
Here are the picture. First Gigas growth from 7/10/2019, about 1/4 inch plus. The larger sea star is about 1/3 inches, the common sea stars that are in everybody's tank. Minimal ledge at the border that separate the growth

Here is the second Gigas, growth since 7/17/2019, ONLY about 1.5-2 mm, with clear step off between the line that mark the time I put him into my tank.

How much did you increase you CA and alk to keep up with the demand?

I have an alkatronic but I have not noticed much of an impact, however I am letting my alk drop a little bit as I was keeping it in the 11.5-12 range but slowly taking it down as BN's don't do well in this tank and I am curious if it's high alk related.

Have had mine for about three weeks. 3 mm of shell growth. I’m increasing the alk and calcium to try to boost growth.

Gigas #1 grew 1/4 inch in almost 1 month, from 7/11/19-8/3/19

Gigas #2 grew about 1/8 inch from 7/18-8/3/2019

After 18 days, I’d estimate there to be 2-3mm of growth. I’ll take that for being in a 5 gallon QT with a HOB filter and manual top offs with a dash of kalk. That aptasia will be treated with the utmost of violence and spite before it relocates to my 150 when my reboot cycle is complete.

Gigas are extremely fast grower. They can easily grow 1/4 inch a month at this size (2 inches). You just got to give them adequate Ca and Alkalinity, and light of course.

Overnight...they would be fine and then the next day, they were sunk in had a huge blob of slime covering them. ReefKeepers in Clayton NC told us what to be on the lookout for and my tankmaster found him one night. He pulled him out with a pair of surgical forceps - stretched to about 2 feet and snapped in half. My husband had the head so since it couldn't navigate well he was able to get the other half out. They can regenerate in no time so we were very fortunate to get the other half. Unfortunately though, it killed about 13 clams before we knew what to look out for. Had some nice maximas too!!! bsa

And we think nems eating fish are an expensive snack...
