Gigas Grow Out Thread

My clam is putting on some good growth. I would say it’s as fast as my derasa clam.

Mine is growing well but my regal angel decided it tastes good unfortunately. I may move it over to another tank but that would require getting rid of my asfur angel because I’m sure he’ll like it too. For now it’s in a deli cup covered with netting.

Here is one of the shells from a gigas I had several years ago. It was about 6" when I bought it and grew to this size in about 5-6 years

Not quite another two weeks from the last photo in the series. Looking at the dates this is only a bit over 1 month if growth!

Can you use a ruler to clearly document the growth. I don't take mine out of the water, so it is hard, but with you it should be no problem.

mine looks good but it isn’t growing crazy fast. Hmm I’ve had it for about a 3 weeks.

your squamosa is looking bleached...ive found that these indo blue squamosas are very sensitive to high intentisy led...suggest you move it further away from light...had it happen to a couple of mine and ultimately perished...now I keep my others firther away...have 6 of them

They seem pretty bullet proof to me. Mine has been ripped from its rock when I was careless siphoning, picked on by my regal angels, and has now been moved to a tank with sketchy water parameters and it still looks perfect.

I have a potential issue in my tank: suspected pyramidellid snails on my turbo snails. I have examined my gigas pretty thoroughly for them with no evidence of their existence on the outside of the clam. I've never seen these before in my system and haven't added anything other than the clam, which I got in a sealed ORA shipping bag that rules out my LFS as a possible source. I suppose it is possible I never saw them in my 150, but I'm posting this to encourage folks to QT their new arrivals just in case. Pyramidellid snails are super easy to deal with if you know you have them.

These parasites does not cross infected. Snails parasites will not infect clams IME. Had problem with the snails parasites in the past.
