Ok so the black out helps with stopping the current growth and situation. You will have a rebloom when the lights come back on. You need to address the bacteria that causes the algae to start with. I recommend Reef Flux it’s cheap and easy. It works on the bacteria without killing your beneficial bacteria. It takes out GHA and the turf algae like black beard. Search for some threads on reef flux. Plenty of stuff out there on it and reef safe so overall good stuff.

Bacteria does not cause algae.
An imbalance of nutrients or excessive nutrients is what allows algae to take off.

Why you doing a black out? What algae are you trying to kill?

While youre at it, add 1ml of 3% peroxide to the sump at night. Peroxide will rid of spores.

Green Algae mostly from over feeding so display is taking over my sump
A black out is a temporary band aid fix if you do correct the underlying problem causing it. Is this a bloom with cloudy water? If so probably want to add an airstone because that could deplete 02 in the tank.

Light and inorganics/nitrates are the food source. Blackout very helpful especially in countering blue light wavelength which promotes algae blooms and algae itself.
