Hanna nitrate checker!

For everyone hoping for high range I would think you could trade a little accuracy for range by diluting the sample. Use 1ml tank water and 9ml fresh saltwater, and multiply the result by 10 to get a 0-50 range, or 2ml sample and multiply by 5 for 0-25, 5ml and x2 for 0-10?

in the Red Sea Pro nitrate test which has a top of 4 ppm, you dilute the sample to extend the high end. You elevate the lowest detectable limit doing so. But if you know your tank is at plus 10 ppm, do you care if your lower limit is now 1 ppm?

Looking forward to giving it a serious test run..

Just curious, why’s everyone against the dilution process like the calcium checker?

One drop of sample water off and it messes up the results. I suppose with nitrate that’s less of an issue but my calcium was always about 75-100 off which can really be an issue if you’re using it for dosing

So Hanna calcium is a no. What’s Hanna checker is good for other than Alkalinity and P04? What’s good tester for magnesium and calcium then?

Some people like the ca checker I just find titration much harder to mess up. I don’t have a need to dose calcium but if I did I wouldn’t base my dosage on a Hanna checker.

alk and po4 are good. I use a mix of tests right now: Hanna, nyos, Red Sea, and salifert

I don’t see the number of calcium that crucial (so the Hannah checker works for me) Not like alk where I need an exact number. If I know my alk and mag, I can pretty much guess my calcium level.

Im thinking you might be able to dilute the sample for higher ranges?
As far as I know, the NO3 test is highly affected by salinity. So it may not be possible to dilute the sample to get it within range and have the correct reading. But again, I might be wrong, I am not a chemist. Maybe Randy can comment on this...

Love this. Another vote for the 0-20 range. I think 0-30 might not have as high of precision, so 0-20 would allow for an appropriate amount of error.

@Hanna if you make the range only 0-5ppm we will all be disappointed and it may cost you sales. Take note!
I’d prefer if it was 0-5 if it meant more accuracy down there. I’m sure sales will be fine either way.

Too easy to make an error with that low of a sample size. I don't use the CA checker because of it. Even though I'm very careful (and worked with Hanna to make sure I was doing it correctly) it just doesn't give consistent results.

0-5 just seems way too low. I really don't need to know the precise number if it's under 5 and I wouldn't think there are enough ULN systems to make a worthwhile sales forecast. I have issues reading Salifert in the 10 to 25 range. Nyos is better, so that's what I use. if this was 0-20 or 0-30 I would probably buy it as long as it wasn't a dilute test like the CA one.

HANNA makes a special pipette that cost about $25 that should be used for accuracy on the CA checker. I had similar problems till I bought the pipette. Been accurate ever since, I barely use it now since I have a trident but I'm definitely going to get this the day it's out without doubt

But I agree with miller535 I definitely think they will release a higher range in the future, and I'll buy that too lol

I have the pipette and bought the exact water they told me to get and it helped but was still 50 high what titration showed. Before I got the pipette it was 100 to 150 high!

Probably will be hard to get for a few weeks after release...I’ll buy one as long as its not like the Ca checker. A tarot card reading is a better use of $50
0 - 20 would be nice

Does it read correctly with the Hanna standard solutions?

Hanna’s are fantastic but they do fall out of calibration over time, I like checking against standards before I test to check the accuracy.

They are like $13
Replaced my phosphate ULR last week actually cause it was reading the standard correctly.
