Cleaning the neck should I absolutely agree because that's where the hydraulic fracturing is occurring. Surface fracturing is no longer occurring at the very top of the bubble column.

This is actually the reason I look no longer clean the neck of my skimmer. Cup dump only.
I only clean my cup- and that is when the film has been building up enough to obstruct the plexi. Otherwise I dump. I have overflowed into my system countless times due to power failure (this morning, for several hours), and I have never seen a negative reaction in my tank.

I don't think fish susceptible to illness were in the original equation. We were told it was a Fowler tank with extremely resilient fish.
I don’t think we were given the original Equation. Powders are very susceptible to illness. Mine has been the most difficult of the tangs I own.

"Again, this is a FOWLR tank. These fish are extremely tolerant of higher nutrient levels than most others in a standard reef.

Clown triggerfish, Powder blue tang (which is debatable on its hardiness) 2 domino damsels, 6 line wrasse, humu humu trigger, 3 stripe damsel... These are not fish we would expect to roll over and die for no reason"

I actually don't even remove my cup anymore. I keep the silicone drain line on there and drain into a bottle. I'm terrified to move it because it's so hard to get dialed in.

I don't think skimmer concentration is deadly to a tank. Especially if u run the skimmer after its accidently or not accidently introduced.
I also think skimmer performance degrades as it builds up organic material on the walls and neck of the skimmer collection cup.

This discussion was actually about if you've overflowed a skimmer. You have repeatedly turned it into a discussion about your tank.

Our conversation about Your tank and Your statement that skim it is Lethal if released back into the system was the basis for this information gathering session.

It doesn't need to be about your tank and you don't need to participate.

As our opinions differ, I do look to others for their relatable experiences.

I have used my tank as a point of firsthand perspective. Nothing more.

I can not and will not regurgitate information I have simply read as a point to base an intellectual debate.

If I have an opinion, based on research alone, I have always and will continue to relate the source of the information to the best of my ability.

The question in point is "Is skimmate lethal to a tank?"

As I said above and have continued to say, in MY tank, yes. This is not to say that it will be in yours, but I will not advise it based on my own experience.

Not sure how this became an issue between everyone vs me aside from the standpoint that I disagree with the rest of you.

You all know me from the forum.. Do you think I would knowingly give bad advice? Do you think my advice now is bad?

If the point of the discussion is to get information from both sides of the point, would it not thereby follow that someone be the counterbalance?

So really ud have to keep raising the level to compensate for the material on the walls. And re adjust and re dial it in everytime u emptied it. Lol! Wow. Ya no.

Each tank is unique and the concentrate of skim is also unique. This is an issue that cannot be defined by one example.

Again, Not an attack. This was intended for Info gathering. You agreed on the first page you would like to see what the collective wisdom was on this as you and I disagree. wHoly. I do know you and have interacted with you a lot and enjoy it.

not attacking, just agree to disagree

I admittedly have not read every post but enough to know what the debate is. I have overflowed my skimmer cup several times and never noticed any detrimental effect to my tank.

I also have an old (very old) Reef Octopus skimmer that has a stand pipe that opens on the top and once my airline got plugged and water started shooting out of the stand pipe like a fountain. It wasn’t detrimental to the fish/corals but it was detrimental to some of my electronics under the stand. :crying-face:

That also sounds disgusting!!! I'm imagining a fire hydrant of fish poo..
