I got this birds nest a few weeks ago at the Mansfield TX frag swap. What is happening to it?!?!?

Looks like it's losing tissue. What are your parameters? Any ALK or salinity swings?

I dont know. Its only been in ther since November 14th I havent tested because I dont have a kit.

Definitely get a kit. Until you establish a baseline of how your tank runs and acts you'll want to test every week or two.

How long has the tank been running? What lighting? Is this your first SPS? Do you dose anything?

The more information you provide the better we can help. But without your tank parameters it will be difficult to know for sure.

Buy a test kit and don't buy anymore new frags until you know that your parameters are stable and be kept that way is probably the best way to move forward at this point. :)

Its a biocube 29 gallon been up for about 6 months. Havent had any problems with it until now. I run the actinics during the day and have a "dark period" during the night.

Ive been in the hobby for over a year, and I did amazing with the nuvo pico 4 gallon (which is still set up). I just dont know whats going on with the birds nest. It was fine then I looked today and it looked like that picture. Should I move it to the other tank? By the way this is my first ever birds nest.

Over a year and no test kit? Im just saying you are gambling with anything you put in that tank with no test kits. Especially sps. Most coral require very stable water parameters.

Yea its been a real stupid move on my part @joshkirkland83. I need to get one but I have to get some money. Are they cheeper in store or online? And what do you think the problem is?

You just missed all the big sales. Id say get a red sea coral pro test kit from BRS. Thats the point anyone would be guessing telling you whats wrong without parameters.

My water comes from a local store that pre mixes it. Its only $1 a gallon and saves me from buying a RODI unit plus salt and a bucket to mix

I think I have done 1 water change. I havent had the time/money to pick up the water.

This isnt a poor mans hobby bro. If you want to have a reef, it costs money. Its going to cost to get your test kit. Once you find whats wrong its going to cost to fix it. Then its going to cost for more coral and to keep it alive. Id do a water change until you get tests and got money to fix the problem.
