What do you consider good growth? @stravo71 I have a rock thats almost covered, and the back is growing some.

Coraline requires Cal and mag plus stable alk to grow. Just like sps if mag is low u will get undesirable algae growth. If it's growing on rock and glass that's good growth. But if you. See hair algae or thin film of algae over in coraline could be green or red than mag is low. This is from my experience and friends experience. Been in hobby for a long time

I hope last post made sense to you. Lol. Tried typing it while driving. Don't recommend doing that. But your welcome that's what everyone is here for. Don't be afraid to ask. But remember go slow with reef tanks. Going fast and wanting that tank you saw online tomorrow will only cause problems and loss of coral and miney. Take your time. It will be worth the wait believe me. Happy reefing my friend

Haha! That's a long post to be typing while driving. But it made plenty of sense

Stravo79 that's a fact I did not know about coraline algae growth that green coraline is a sign of low mag when my tank first started it ate mag like crazy and all my coraline growth was green now it makes sense. I 7se this table know and matching these parameters helped me stabilize my tank.

Usually when someone has a problem they post their tank water parameters, otherwise what else do we have to go on? Just a heads-up though, I also do not have an extreme amount of disposable cash. Do NOT do what I did and search online for cheap test kits (ebay or amazon). Not all reagents in a test kit have expiration dates on them and I spent 50 bucks on a bad red sea test kit. Might have been tampered or expired but the company took my money and wont contact me back *sigh*

I buy test kits on amazon but if you use eBay I would file a dispute they will give your money back

Biocube lights are good if you match the parameters example 420 calcium 8.5 alkalinity multiply the calcium x3 to get your magnesium of 1260 that way each element balances the other. I did a water change and tested every day for 7 days to see what my tank consumes then used bulk reef calculator to see what the dose was to get me to my target numbers dived by 7 and that's what you need to dose every day

So, you are saying I can keep SPS when I learn to keep the stats stable?
For the most part yes. But you also need sufficient lighting. And low nutrients. Thus the stability thing. Little higher than 5 watts per u.s gallon. Is a good rule of thumb. Like I told others keep an eye out for great coraline growth. If it is growing all over your rocks and glass then your tank is humming along nicely. Probably good enough to keep sps. As long as you have low nutrients and high light.
