Help! what's wrong with my Duncan?

I have a 12 year old basketball sized Duncan that gets 250 PAR and significant flow. They can take a lot more than 100 par and minimal flow so i wouldn't let that scare you.

I'm not sure if you mentioned but how long ago did this go in your tank? They are finicky and may take a while to adjust.

I would agree with others that you need some nitrate in your tank to keep the Duncan and the other corals happy.
Well I readjusted it and it is doing great

I didn't mean for this to come out sideways

Also do you mind sharing a photo or two, that sounds like a really cool Duncan

This right here ^^^

I keep my Duncans at around 250-300 PAR with moderate flow and they grow like weeds.

I also kept them at much, much higher PAR levels, from 400 to 600 and they seem to be happy just as much as in lower light intensities.

Only reason why I went back to lower PAR (250-300) was that it was hard for me to keep them from spreading onto Acros, and I also had to keep them in places where the flow was slightly blocked by other colonies because otherwise it’d be too harsh on them.

But yeah, I agree - I wouldn’t worry much about lighting, and I doubt the flow is anything close to what I’ve been keeping mine, so it’s likely not that high either.

You nutrients are more than likely to be the culprit, and like mentioned above - Duncan’s can also be finicky when first introduced into a new system.

Good luck!

Sure. This is it from April of last year. It is significantly bigger now.

This is it out of water on a 12" bucket lid. I was going to try and frag it and quickly realized I need something far stronger than coral cutters.

Now I know how mine would look like if I hadn’t been heavily fragging it multiple times a year lol

Defiantly get a Dremel with a diamond disc for Duncans, there’s no other way.

Looking better but it can open more. My Duncans will let me know pretty quickly how they feel. They’ll go from completely closed to looking like they could pop in a matter of minutes when I adjust flow. And mine are pretty finicky. Like hammer coral finicky about their flow. You just need to feed your tank a little more too.

ok, I will keep making adjustments until it does good
