I am not sure why but my tyree undata has always had really big polyps and looks really brown it grows at a decent rate but doesnt look the way that I want it to if you have any ideas let me know every other coral in my tnak looks great I also cant keep sunset montis alive or reverse sunsets they bleach and die tried 4 times those could be my tanks higher temps but I ran my tank cooler a while back for a long time and never got good color with the undata

PH steady 8.1-8.3
alk around 9-10 dkh
calcium always around 400
mag 1400-1500
temps 81-82

here is a link that shows some pics of my system and what is in it

I feed photo weekly use aquavitro fuel and vibrance as directed by the bottle and a mix of frozen brine krill silversides once a week and every other day a some golden pearls of different sizes and flake daily by an auto feeder I would think its to full then hungry

what type of lighting? you might send off a water sample to a lab to be tested. something isnt right if you cant keep montis.

its just the reverse sunset and sunset montis others grow like weeds heres some pics of other corals in my tank for comparison lighting is 2 250w phoenix ARO ballasts and 2 54w uvl super actinics on a 100 gallon tank

there a local reefer that works in a lab near me I will try and get him to run some tests and see what I get I run kalk through a reactor with ato water and use reefcrystals for waterchanges every other month 20%

the montis where small when I got them less then a 1/4 inch and fresh cuts I may need to get a bigger frag and let it establish itself better before receiving

100% tyree undata I got it from a local reefer saw it in his tank I dont have a pic of his but I am sure in his tank it looks like tyree undata green to purple base with small white circles

hmm. well i've never seen a monti with that kind of extension.

usually polyps extension like that means not enough light.

I have had them right under the lights and still the same thing and I can get great color in most if not all my acros at the bottom of my tank the 16x16 reflectors I have (used a scaled down copy of luminarcs to make them out of 99% reflective material) really make the tank bright bulbs are new in the last 2 months prior to that they where 12 months old and I didnt notice any difference in color or brightness with the new bulbs

have u ever thought of your that crazy polyp extension to be ag ood thin glol? looks cool to me. polyp extension = good.

hows the flow where it is? from the picture it looks kinda still

Were do you have it placed it doesnt look that bad but lower in the tank under your lighting is better for getting the green color
Yours look more in the shade
I have mine under T5 and it looks greener

That is an avelopora not a monti. Similar to a goni but typically branching. Lower light, indirect light, direct at times, medium flow the silver blue will pop better, but will stay mostly tan.

its placed mid tank with a slight shade at the moment but as mentioned above I have tried all over the tank and it looks the same

this is not avelopora I can see why you would say that but if you saw the frag I put in a friends tank and the colony it came off you would agree monti undata

+1, avelopora not undata--
Would love to see pic of mother colony
