Hey new here from North Carolina

Alright guys need some input on a light set up. I hate to pay several hundred for multiple lights. But I also know you get what you pay for. I've been debating on a oceanrevive t-247 or a marsaqua 165. I would prefer either a kessil and or AI-Prime HD. My question is will either 1 kessil or AI-prime be sufficient for just starting and then as time goes on adding a second to get full coverage be mu best option or should I get the marsaqua or the oceansrevive and call it a day.

Also the only thing I dont like about the marsaqua and ocean revive is they dont come with any sort of tank mount and I know my wife wont let me do a ceiling mount with them

Also the next question is regardless of the light I get approximately how high should I mount the light?

Welcome Daniel...:)

Let me know if you need any help locally. Where are from NC?
I'm in anderson creek. About 15 mins north of fort bragg. I got a place down in southport so I may have to get up with you one day when I'm down that way.

Welcome! What part of NC? I grew up in Sanford all my life. Live in WV now. Glad you made it. Ask whatever you want! Pics!?

I know Sanford well. Sandord is most of Lee County. ;)

Got a lot of upper flow but I'm not noticing anything on the bottom. I'm thinking of Addis another powerhead to the opposite side and angle it downwards to achieve that. My wife set up the rock and now she hates it and wants something more natural looking so I guess I will be escaping it this week. Any recommendations on how I should go about creating a natural look. I've looked at alot of the aquascape ideas and cant decide what I like more. Also what should I do with my fish while I'm escaping. I'm thinking of placing him and my 1 good piece of live rock that has feather dusters on it in a bucket with a heater and power head.

Thanks

It is looking great. Just play around a little with the rock until it suits you. The good part of not gluing or 'rodding' rock. I arrange mine different probably once every couple of months.

Yes, I would add another powerhead for flow, but you should have decent oxygen exchange with the air bubbles from your waterfall from the AquaClear filter you're running.

Where do you get your fish and live rock from? I will be in Raleigh Wednesday.

@Daniel87

Sorry I missed this. I've had Doctors appointments for the past 2 days. Two (actually three) outstanding LFS' in the Raleigh area.

Going in alphabetical order because I'm friends with the owners of all three.

1.Fintastic in Cary
2. Fish Room about 3 miles from Fish Room in Cary
3. Fish Room Raleigh location

*, By all means, check them out. Fintastic has a huge selection of inverts such as anemones, clams and both have lots of coral. For a one-stop show though Fintastic does have it all at affordable prices. The owner was/is a hobbyist who dreamed of owning a shop to help hobbyists and fulfilled his dream.

Harnett county portion of Anderson Creek? Jump on 401 to Lillington then to Fuquay-Varina and you'll be close to two great LFS'. Do NOT go to the one in Fayetteville. All livestock will be diseased and unacceptable. I told the owner off a few years back.

Yep. I've been hitting up fintastic off and on pretty good place. Still looking at other stores as well. May make a trip down towards the beach in a few weeks and see what all is down there.

Well my second wave pump showed up today. Its twice as big and even dialed all the way down it's too much. Going to be sending it back and getting another small one. I had a jaebo 0W-10 and decided to go up one size to the the 25 but holly crap there's a big difference. I also went ahead an order an AI Prime HD. I found on sale. I figured if it isnt enough which I belive it wont be I can always add a second later down the road.

Time for fish to go into my qt tank for a few weeks

Getting brown diatoms. Ammonia levels are still a little low. .05 on the api test kit. Should I start dosing with ammonia or not.

I'm thinking no since the diatoms are present.

Hey, my friend. Diatoms look ugly but in most of the time, they are harmless so the no need to worry since your tank is pretty new and nearing the end of the nitrogen process.

If it continues there are ways to address it which we can look at in a week or so.

Since your clownfish and Fire shrimp are in the QT it wouldn't hurt to turn the lights off for 3 or 4 days and go from there.

It's more a pain to look at rather than associating it with an unhealthy tank with a major outbreak. This too shall pass my new friend. Before you know it all will be beautiful. :)

Please keep us updated.
