Definitely should stay away from it then. Thanks for your help bud.It can do that in a display, but it reproduces another way as well. Caulerpa for example builds up a reproductive “fluid.” When it is ready, the fluid all releases at once from the plants. It leaves the old plant behind, dead and decaying, and all that fluid goes into your tank. A huge cloudy mess. Keeping it trimmed and in a refuge may help avoid this.
EDIT: I should mention I am not a macroalgae expert, but this is how I understand it.
