HomeWrecker under normal lighting?

That's what's been bothering me. I really like the colors of this coral but I don't look at my tank under actinic, and top-down... So that's why I posted it here... With the budget I can get HW or I can get a couple of very nice wild colonies.

Psh, not just a couple. You could get an entire box of maricultured Acropora for the price these go for, and let's face it that's what the "high end" corals start as anyway. But that's just me, people can pay whatever they want for an axial corallite if they please.

I'd go as far as to say you can probably get around 10 not just a couple.

I like this coral, and I think it looks great. Waiting for prices to go significantly down. $1K and sold out last year. Today, it is currently available on JF's site for $699.

Next year....

Exactly, I would much rather get a box of maricultured acros which now a days have some very nice colors. I think the market that has been made for these frags, well boogers, is obsurd.

Pretty sure JF is still selling these at shows in the $800-1000 range.
That's about right. I didn't pay exactly that for mine but your not far from it. JF is stil
to be honest though, even in Top Aq's picture I don't really see the 800ish dollar in it...
I hope your wrong about that. However, sitting next to my OP it looks just ok as a frag. Maybe when it grows out a bit. Lots of rainbows poping up nowadays so it always brings an $800 frags value into question.

But how many of those rainbows are truly rainbows? I mean 4 colored rainbows, not ones where two of the four colors are pink and a purpleish pink. I think the colors need to be distinctly obvious and be at least four of them to be called a rainbow. There are not many of them.

As long as people willing to pay 800-1000 a frag the high price cycle.
If all of us reefer stop buying high end with ridiculous price the corals price will drop dramatically that is my 2 cents.

Been talking about this for a while now and 100% agree with your rainbow definition. Everyone has a different "rainbow" thought process. Think about how difficult it would be to find a rainbow under MH, then it got easier with T5, then it got easier with blue led, now people are going as far as to using blue led with orange filters, then calling it rainbow if they find slight variances between shades......pretty ridiculous.

Exactly! I'm not going to start the whole booger sized frag extreme price gouging thread. If people are willing to pay those prices then they'll continue to sell them that high. Myself, will not be buying over priced booger frags.

The pic from Reefers Direct is very beautiful for sure. This piece is definitely a gem. I like the vibrant colors it has. However, just from my own perspective, I'll probably wait for its price to drop to 300-400.

Good thing is that HW is a tenuis. It's hardy and grows fast like WD. Hopefully the price keeps dropping.

The mariculture thing though is a hit or miss. I like buying maricultured/wild pieces but I have 50% success rate. Not to say that they'll end up dying but often times they loose color & brown out in some cases. But I have to admit that the most beautiful pieces in my tank are wild/maricultured. Some of their colors are just insane.

Maricultured color back up nicely though, and wild needs to be phased out. With cultured they just need some time to adjust and they usually turn out gorgeous.

Oh yeah, it got easier to make "shades" of corals come out. I believe some people or vendors are using special lighting with not only blue but colored LEDs with orange or yellow filters and it seems like maybe even blacklights in there for some. I know I don't run my lighting like that so I ignore the nice pretty tiny frags. Even though the hw filtered pics are very nice looking, for a LOT of people it's misleading. And I mean a LOT.

I agree. When we see them a lot of times we say "that's an awesome pic". Well oftentimes that's just what it is, a picture. Why do we need filtered pictures taken under 100%actinic or UV when what it really ends up looking like are the examples we've seen posted over and over again with tags like "needs some coloring up still". Because it's not what it really looks like. Anyway, we know how I feel I just wanted to add more to your thought.

Yea a ton of these nice corals come from maricultures. I have really liked what I get these days. I have had a very good success rate on good shipments. Being prepared to keep maricultures and knowing how to keep them is a very big part in the success rate. I have had a very few turn brown from the last 4 boxes.

Op thanks for starting this thread. Can we get more pics of this coral under daylight, halide or t5?
