How much do you spend on electricity each month on your large tank?

What do you have as a set up? Lights? Pumps? Type of skimmer? Chiller? Etc?

The lights are tricky math... But everything else is pretty easy... By my calculations, my 220 gallons costs about $40 CAD a month. The heating is just an estimate, but this is a high estimate. This includes 2 300w heaters, two mag 12s, four korrilia 1500s, aquamaxx cone co-3 and my lights (including the fuge light)...

That's not bad. What amount do you pay by kWh?

Anyone else?
I'm closer to $73 per month at .1142 per kWh.

256g main display, sump, and frag tank.

40g in coral and fish QT included.

I'd drop around $12/mo if not running QT.

I spend around $40 on my reefer 350, but that's partly because we're blessed with ~0.25c per kWh electricity in NYC. I ran kill a watt for a while until I changed my lights.

Not enough to make a difference...

Large, inefficient, 1970's rambler, all electric, 2x 4 ton heat pumps... swimming pool, hot tub... I've added insulation where I can, but to do it right, I'd have to tear it down and start over.

The aquarium? Doesn't even register.

Back 30 years ago I think about 400 to 500 an month in the summer, Now I don't think much more than 30 if that. LEDs keeps my house cool so the AC doesn't run all the time and pumps and all are very efficient

.083 ish, it goes up or down .001 each month.
8.3 cents? - that's really cheap for Ontario. I live in Northern Ontario and expected power prices to skyrocket but I pay the same rates as Southern Ontario (gta) just more in delivery charges.

I pay 6.5 cents to 13.5 cents depending on the time of day, which is not too bad but also $100 or so delivery charged tacked on each month.
Now in the dead of winter my power bill approaches $300 but again $100 of that is delivery even if I don't turn a single light switch on I'd get that. Actual usage is only 100-200 a month. I have 3 marine aquariums a mixed reef, a frag tank with metal halide lighting (just one 250w) and a fowlr. Given that there are months where my total household electricity usage is only about $100 before fees, I can't see the aquariums costing more then 25-35$ a month if that.

According to my Apex my Reefer 750XXL runs about $22/month.

I run:
2 - Kessil AP700's
1 - Vectra M1
2 -MP40wQD's
1 - Reef Octopus Regal 250SSS Skimmer
1 - H80 Tuna Flora refugium light
1 - MJ1200 to my carbon/GFO Reactor

Based on my Bill taking the total dollar amount / KWH used I am paying 16 Cents per KWH. My bill separates the charges into "power supply" and "delivery charges" I have tried to do the math to convert AMPs into KWH to figure out the energy consumption but I cannot figure it out. Does anyone have any formulas I can use? My apex is constantly drawing 20+ Amps. This does not include my Radions and mp40s which are not hooked up to my APEX but to the Reeflink.

We have same tank but I use current USA lights and a cheap flood light for refugium and I came out with 24 dollars a month But I also included my heaters in my cost. 3 300 Watt heaters

SDG&E invites me to the Xmas party and send me birthday cards.

That’s how high my bill is.

Lucky you! ConEd sends me regular “awareness reports” pointing out my power use is 30% higher than the neighbors and then tops it off with how much pollution I’ve added - they love keeping their customers happy.

Does anyone know how to figure out monthly usage in kW if I have the amp reading from my Apex Classic?

Amp multiplied by voltage (120) gives you wattage.. then wattage divided by 1000 gives you kw.

The problem is your amperage fluctuated when things like heaters and lights turn on and off.

Marine Depot had a good calculator for energy costs that allows you to toggle hours per day items are used (like heaters and lights).

My tank is in the basement. and the space is about 1000 sq ft. Before the tank, I did not have to heat the basement. Now, I heated with 30,000BTU heat pump and it adds about 300$ to the bill. My total December electricity bill was ludicrous!
In a way, I'm having second thought on finishing the basement and put the tank down there. But it is what it is now.
