How tall are everybody's stands?

Mine is 40"... I didn't want to have too bend my head down to see past the top rim into the tank. A small step may be required for some work, but not a problem for me.

Thanks for the continued input. Thinking maybe I'll bump it up to 40". I'm probably going to spend most of my viewing time sitting while on conference calls but a little extra height may not be bad.

If that's the case you might want to center the tank at eye level when you're sitting in your chair... that way you won't have to tilt your neck up or down to look into it. Sitting behind a computer all day, I can attest to the fact that even slight tilts in the viewing path can be a literal pain in the neck.

I built my tank stand tall 42'' makes it super easy to work under.also my tank is shallow only 12'' so it mkes it easy to view having a tall stand.

I just started building my stand this weekend. I went with 32" high. Gives me 28.5" underneath for the sump/skimmer if I remember. It is tight for the skimmer, but the tank will sit right next to the couch. I was debating 34" or 36", but the couch back is 32" and I didn't really want it taller than that. Plus most of the viewing will be while sitting on the couch next to it so I didn't want it too high for that. I still have to check it with the sump and skimmer underneath. I may have to raise it depending on the space.

If you are sitting to view it, you might want to go down a bit from 40. I built mine at 40, but it's in an area where I would be viewing it while standing all the time.

Mine is about 29 inches tall - Not real happy, but I bought it and the tank (with Canopy) used. I may one day build a new Stand for it, but not now. Another thing to consider is the height of the protein skimmer and any other reactors you may be using or ATO.

I've seen good results with raising these low factory stands... just build a 'box' to set it on, and if it has one, cut the bottom out so that your sump sits on the floor. Not too much work, if you're happy with the stand otherwise.

Actually it is a "Furniture Base" for a 180 Gallon Tank - Weight approx 1 Ton fully loaded. Great Idea, though. I need to get some wood working tools, but I want to get the tank up and running.

I have my 40 breeder on a 28" stand. I think it's at a good height for me to see while I'm sitting at my desk. It's just low enough that I'm not distracted by the overflow box and the return

My first was 36" and I hated it. Mine is 40" now and love it. Just right for viewing and plenty of room in the sump area to work.

I have a 90g thats on a 36" stand every time i need to do something in the tank i need a step ladder or chair to reach the bottom. If you sit near it your looking up at the underside of all the acros.
New stand i built for a 180g im currently building is 32" same as a tv stand. Ill be veiwing from the coach why stand? Im also kicking the idea around of mounting the lights on a 15° angle to manipulate the coral growth slightly foword instead of up.

Make sure it's at a height to where it's easy to clean.

I have a 120g rimless tank from Planet Aquariums. I had a steel stand built that is 40 high plus about 1.5'' adjustable feed plus another 3/4'' for a wood base. It's perfect. Yes i have to use a stool to service it but from the amount of time you're admiring it vs the amount of time you're servicing it, it's a no brainer. I'm 5'11.

I had my steel stand built at 36", then with the adjustable feet, it sits about 37in . The top of the tank is just shy of 60in high.

I ended up going with 40". When seated in my office chair my eyes are around 47-50" so both 36" or 40" would be good viewing heights from my desk so I went higher for those times when you're not sitting.

It's a work in progress...

I've got some nice sanded plywood for the sides, some nice 1x8 to trim out the front and some molding for the top, bottom, and corners. So should over up all the 2x4s and 2x6s and will paint it white to match the other cabinets in the office. The last piece will be doors. Never made those before so haven't delved into that yet.

My new stand... bar height. Eventually, there'll be four lit, glass shelved units in the area under the stand, filled with liquor bottles and glassware.

Yes the frames on the tank are black and why we wanted it to look in set so we could hide them. Here's a picture of the full set up with canopy.

My tank started the same way as yours. I use cherry to finish the stand.
