Just dont leave the car running in your garage. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Same thing with generators. Do not run them in your garage.

Except if your tank pH is too high ;)

In that scenario it would be remarkably effective!

Can’t buy a generator live in a condo.

Don’t want a car battery because god FORBID it explodes or something happens the HOA will kill me

Edit: work in hospital so the tank will be alone for 2 days if I’m forced to work
The likelyhood of a battery exploding is insanely low. They have only exploded in car fires. I've been a tech for dealerships for 20 years. And I'm also a volunteer firefighter. The only time I've ever seen a batter explode was when the car was fully engulfed in flames.... as for the condo and the generator... I lived in a condo during hurricane sandy(I live in jersey) and everyone was run ing generators, i shared mine with my downstairs neighbor to run our furnaces, refrigerators and tv for 2 weeks while we were out of power. (I ran my tank off it too)

A deep cycle Battery is the way to go. Depending on the size of the battery with an inverted it can run a return pump
For a few days.

Btw If your on the hospital grid you have nothing to worry about

I think here you should specify LIPO vs lead acid though. Those Tesla’s burn hot!!!

Move to Arizona... That's what I did after Irma destroyed my neighborhood in the Keys. But seriously I wish everyone in the path luck. I was not lucky, and Irma took out my Red Sea Reefer 350.

RIP

I’m dead center in the cone now. I’m a bit inland so there’s not much chance of major damage. I’m mostly just worried about dealing with the generator and finding gas to keep it going. I have a 15,000 watt generator that runs most things (including A/C thankfully) in the house but it’s not a standby one so I can only run it while I’m home. Hopefully this time won’t be as bad as the last one for finding gas because everyone won’t be evacuating from the south.
No power for 6 days last time. Ended up driving 160 miles round trip to my parents house to pick up 40gal of gas and the power came on 10 mins after I got back home.

Ouch! That sucks...

Well it’s that dang time of year again where us Floridians have to dodge hurricanes thrown at us.

I recently bought this plus 15 some odd batteries. I have a 40g mixed reef with no SPS and 6 fish. What else do I need?

Maybe the wall plug that turns on when it senses no power? (Forgot the name)

The very best, get a generator and keep it stored for as long as you have a tank and live in Florida!

I'm sorry to hear about that. I'm in NC we were without power for 3-4 days last year when the hurricane hit. OP if you live close to the hospital then you might be blessed with being on that power grid. I know where I live the citywide the power was out but by the hospital everyone had power. Hopefully everyone stays safe.

Thousand gallons should last a while- ~11 days at maximum consumption.

When I was looking into a standby generator they were trying to sell 500g. They told me 4-5 days. I was mainly concerned with if they would be able to refill it when needed. That and the $$$ to refill it. Would have definitely been more convenient but by the time I would have bought the generator, the tank, had it installed, and filled it, I would have been looking at around $7000. I went with the portable that was $2500 instead. It plugs into an outlet in my garage. Kind of a pain but I couldn’t justify the extra money for something I only use a few times a decade.

Definitely true. Harbor freight has some nice small inverters for under $500. They look to be copies of the Honda’s. Probably a much smarter investment than a lot of the crap we spend money on for our tanks.

First thing I did when I moved to Florida a couple years ago. Generator, portable A/C unit and a number of gas cans.
Enough to survive for the short term.

I have a JBJ 1/10 chiller and I am still trying to figure out which Gas Generator will run it? I do have a Honda 1000i and everytime it did the start cycle and the generator shut off.. so not sure how much of a bigger generator I need.

No one can tell me how many AMPS or WATTS the start cycle uses on the JBJ DB-075
It is rated to draw : 2.63A while running, I guess about 300 watts. Since it is like a freezer in its operation I would guess it would be no more than 3 times or about 9 to 10 amps. It has a 15A 125V Duplex Receptacle which i guess is tripping.
Your 1000i is rated at AC Output 120V 1000W max. (8.3A) 900W rated (7.5A)
The next model up is:
The 2800I is rated at AC Output 120v 2800w max (23.3A) / 2500w rated (20.8A)
Thats all I got besides a freezer full of frozen gallons jugs

Thank you. Maybe my honda 1000i is pushing it. Ice cube will not work if power is
Out for 1 week. So i may get a bigger one to try out and run everything off from it
