My house right now is in the direct path of this storm, in Jensen beach, Fl lol dead center. When Irma came 2 years ago I lost power for 9 days, I was in Melbourne Fl at the time. I am not looking forward to this storm at all my acros are so colorful and growing like weeds :(

Man that’s a tough one.
Irma went up the other side and still hit your power.
Good luck, hopefully it will shift another direction.

I’m still hoping it heads more north like they always seem to when they come from the east

I did get nervous they’d run out and just went to grab 30gal of gas for the generator. Way too much money in the tank to take any chances

My parents live in Sebring. No tank, but they are almost 80. I always worry.

Can’t buy a generator live in a condo.

Don’t want a car battery because god FORBID it explodes or something happens the HOA will kill me

Edit: work in hospital so the tank will be alone for 2 days if I’m forced to work
Consider a marine deep cycle battery and an inverter. I have a bunch of them and have never seen one blow up.

Hopefully it will turn and run up the Atlantic. Im in St Augustine very close to the beach so knock of the "more north" stuff please LOL.

I would also keep a bottle of hydrogen peroxide. You can safely dose a ml per gal twice a day to help oxygenate the water.

Is there some sort of plug I can buy that automatically turns on the battery operated bubbler if the power goes out. I know I’ve seen one on here but can’t find it

Praying for all as i am Florida bound in the future. Will be in the Doral area.
How bad does this get each year? SOMETHING I REALLY NEVER LOOKED INTO.
Those with battery operated pumps- be sure to have spares

Hello,

To plainly state up front I hope all in Florida (stay safe and nothing happens to their homes) will this come true I sure hope so. But these things are kinda what makes owning a reef kinda suck.
Granted I don’t have to worry about my home floating down the street. Again as sensitive as this topic is I hope that doesn’t happen to anyone.
But they do and the op understandably is worried, similar to me moving my 240 to a new home (again,
Long story). But I worry I’m gonna lose everything but what can I really do but hope for the best. Point being yes we can try and do generators car batteries etc. but have we calculated all possible actions. Yes generators batteries (lipo) even worse, may keep the power to the tank on. It does nothing if this storm floods your home or worse relocates a mile down the street.

Are all these ideas offered great (yes) but as much as I adore my home and tank, I’m definitely not gonna cut in line to visit the local morg. If the storm is in your direct path what matters most is your life. Yes these may prevent your tank from power loss, but if your house floods, they could make things much worse. Again what can one do, other than guess really. I hope every one stays safe and leaves if they are in the direct path of it just get some where safe.

That’ sucks, and im Florida bound in the near future.... permanently

It’s really not that big of a deal in most areas of Florida assuming you live in a home that was built somewhat recently and don’t live in a flood zone. I’m in central Florida and it’s more of an inconvenience that a dangerous situation.
When you move here just pick up a generator and a window unit AC and you can ride out the power outages in relative comfort. And don’t forget lots of gas cans. Keeping fueled up is the biggest pain for me. Best bet is to store a bunch of gas when hurricane season really kicks in and then just use it for your car if you don’t end up getting hit with a storm that year.

Bunch of gas cans is right! I looked for cans at three different stores today. I have a couple but not enough for an extended outage. I finally just filled up a 65 gallon tank on one of my skiffs and moved it next to the house. Fortunately it has a port for draining fuel so that's taken care of.

Never heard of that before, I am going to have to read up on it.

It’s been used for decades mainly in freshwater tanks. Basically similar to using an oxydator. Even higher quantity is safe.

I encourage for all Floridian Reefers to overnight all their fish and coral to ME in Ohio. I'll get back to you when I might ship them back

According to The Weather Channel.... every single in person in Florida is going to die.

..... or wait....The Weather Channels sells TV commercials ads for profit. Weather terrorism for higher viewership abounds
