In case nobody noticed, I have a few extra "tiles" under my screen name. I was contacted by @mdbannister to see if I was interested in becoming a moderator for this great forum. And obviously I accepted lol. So thank you to @revhtree and the rest of the staff for inviting me to help with the forum!

Man you have had some rough times forsure! Very impressed with the way you kept working through the bad but in all honesty with some of the lps and zoas you have i would have left the sps alone haha

Also are you in pa? And what happened with the mp10 I think I may need to check one in a few months

The last half of 2015 was a nightmare I will admit. But from 2012-first half 2015 was awesome. Everything grew like weeds haha.

The bearings in the dryside went bad and made a terrible grinding noise. The new ones should be here this week so I can replace them and be back to normal.

I am pretty close to pittsburgh. About 40 minutes southeast

Yea about 3 hours or so away.

Good and bad, I enjoy doing this stuff a lot. It also helps to have a wife and little girl who enjoy the tank as well, keeps me going haha

So the bearings came in today and boy was I amped ready to go to give this a try. I ordered 2 different sizes because I wasn't sure what exactly size was needed. I got a pair of 7x14x5 and 6x15x5. The right bearings I needed were the 6x15x5, apparently the mp10's were manufactured using 2 different size bearings so make sure you check what size you need. So prying the old bearings off proved to be near impossible. I had to put the bearings in a bench vice and had to pop them off by crushing them causing them to explode.

After I got them off most videos show the new bearings literally just sliding on by hand, again not the case for me. I had to drill a hole in a 24 the size of the shaft and then used a hammer to tap them on. After I got them on I put the bearings back into the housing

I put the appropriate screws back in and made sure the 3 black washers went back in the same way they came out. I then screwed the exterior magnet back on before putting the motor back in the housing

So now it's all buttoned up and ready for a test run. So with fingers crossed I plugged it in. And BAM! Still pretty loud, not as loud as the bad bearings, but I could clearly hear it in the next room. So back to the drawing board, I take it all apart again and long story short I make the decision to remove the 3 washers to see if it will help. After I put it back together I just put the pump in the tank and get it ready to go. I fire it up and it's now noticeably quieter, not nearly as quiet as my other vortechs not even close, but it's manageable for now. I'm hoping that the bearings just need "broken in" but the mechanic in me knows better than that and I am more than likely just going to get a new dry side in the future. I will take a video of my vortechs on my tank to show the noise.

Luckily I don't have much cash invested in this endeavor, but it's still disappointing. Not sure what else I could do to quiet this thing down. If anyone has suggestions please send them over.

I have a db meter app on my phone, not exactly sure how accurate it is but the mp10 seems to be averaging around 49db. And I'm not sure if it's just me becoming used to it but it sounds like it's quieting down some. I'll report back tomorrow and see what happens.

Bummer- I was hoping you were going to have good luck - for once. I guess the MP10 that is loud will be a great salt mixing pump- LOL.
