Hypo in a 240g FOWLR

That's odd that they do not mention that when they send it in a clear bag. I guess time will tell. I will try to keep as much light away and just run lights for a few minutes when feeding.

The Desjardini was dead when I got home, but it was in such bad shape, I was not surprised. The Tusk is alive, but not doing a lot of swimming around.

I'm not thrilled about it, but it looks like it's gonna be Wed before I can get the DT fish moved to QT unless I get some lucky catches during the few minutes I have to make attempts. Those fish act healthy and dive into the rock work as soon as the new hits the water. I'm going to have to pull out most of the rock.

My CP (from PCCA Pharmaceutical Company) came in a white medicine bottle and clearly says "PROTECT FROM LIGHT".

I took off work early today and ran all over the place looking for Metroplex and Kanaplex as Humblefish though that some of what was on the sides of my Tangs could be infection. Two of my three LFS did not have either, but thankfully the last (of course) did. I got home, pulled most of my rock out (almost filled up the bathtub) and was able to catch everyone and get them into the QT, which now has both "plexs" and CP. The battle begins...

For those keeping track...Harlequin Tusk has been in since yesterday. Still alive, not eating (that I have seen) and not doing much swimming around. I transferred my Ourplr and Blonde Naso Tangs, Green Bird Wrasse and Longnose Hawk.

The unfortunate death toll so far...Desjardini Tang, Passer Angel, Rusty Angel, Lamark Angel and Magnificent Foxface.

I'm sure I've already told you this, but point one or two powerheads towards the surface of the water to provide additional gas exchange when mixing all those meds. Or add an airstone or two.

For the appetite suppression, feed their favorite foods soaked in garlic.

Good luck!

I had not thought about an air stone, but just pulled a small air pump and stone off a nano skimmer I had in the garage and added that. I will go get a tee tomorrow and run another as well. The power heads did have good surface agitation, but I guess it's better to go with more than less.

The QT seems okay so far. The Purple and Blonde tangs ate mysis this morning. The Hawk and Tusk ignored it all, but are alive. I did not see the Green Bird wrasse, but suspect he is hiding in one of the smaller pic pipes that I could not see into.

Any chance you can get your hands on some live blackworms to entice the carnivores?

I don't think any LFS sell those. Any suggestions on where to buy online? I found one place that is $32 for 1/8lb shipped. Seems steep unless these live for a really long time.

They can live for a month or more if you change their water daily. Which basically means just pour them into a fine mesh net and replace their water. You also need to keep them refrigerated (wife hates that part.)

The place that sells them online also sells a "blackworm keeper" which makes it easier to change the water: http://aquaticfoods.com/BlackwormAccessoriesM.html

It's basically just one plastic container inside another, with tiny holes drilled at the bottom of the inside container.

The latest in QT...the Purple Tang seems to be doing good. Looks a little pale, but eats normal and looks clean. I lost the Blonde Naso overnight. It was eating yesterday though. The Tusk that has been in constant hiding was out swimming around, but I did not see it eat. Just being out gives me hope with that guy. My Longnose Hawk was moving around a bit as well, but I have not seen it eat. The Green Bird is hiding and acting like the Tusk did. I saw it yesterday, but did not have time to move stuff around to look this morning.

I tested ammonia and ph this morning. Ph is a little low, so I will get that up later. Ammonia was bad, but I am using Prime, so hopefully that knocks that down. I'm going to do a big water change tonight and tomorrow morning and do my third dose of the plexs tomorrow. I'm going to mix up a batch of water with CP in a Brute can to make those easier.

Just hang in there. The fish have about a week (max) before all the attached parasites finish dropping off and CP can protect them from reinfection. They just have to weather the storm until then.

Yeah...I like that the Hawk and Tusk are moving more. I figure they must be feeling a little better. The Tusk worries me a bit as it has been about a week since I saw it eat. I actually thought it was dead last weekend because it was just lodged between rocks and not moving at all. The others all ate right before going into QT, so I figure they are a little better off for that.

Everyone is still alive, but the Purple Tang has decided that it's going to hide and not eat now. I think losing it's sidekick (the Blonde) did not help.

The Ammonia is reading between 1 and 2 on my API tests. I'm using Prime to keep that at bay. I'm not getting any Nitrate readings though, so I am thinking the hypo (which I am raising slowly) is affecting the beneficial bacteria from my sponge and two pieces of live rock that I added. I should have salinity back up close to normal tomorrow and plan to pull a couple rocks from another tank or just buy some bacteria and go that route.

I did a 15/25 water change just to pull the ammonia down a bit. Still at about 1.

A few things I probably need to mention:
  1. If this is velvet, that makes fish sensitive to light. So, I would turn off any light you may be running.
  2. The presence of CP renders ammonia test kits useless. You will get nothing but false positives. You have to rely upon the Seachem ammonia alert badge.
  3. No need to test for nitrates in QT. You only need to monitor ammonia and in your case pH (because you are still under somewhat hypo conditions).

Ok...I had not heard about the light sensitivity thing, so lights will stay off. Not sure whether MV or Brook, but I guess it can't hurt.

I just got Ammonia Alert badge in the mail today. No local stores had them.

The Hawk and Purple Tang are eating. The Tusk swims around when I put food in, but I have not actually seen it eat. I'm guessing it must be, as over a week ago, it would not move and I actually thought it was dead. The Green Bird Wrasse is always hidden. I did not have time to hunt this morning, but will check later.

An interesting side not...I checked my chaeto in the refugium in my 240g that is still hypo. There was a different macro that had shown up a while ago that started to grow throughout the chaeto. I cut out that section and moved it away in hopes of keeping some of the chaeto "pure". That new macro was totally gone now. Looks like it dissolved.
