help! ask all the questions! tell me what I'm doing wrong- I am at a complete loss. I spent an hour at work today talking with my co-workers trying to figure it out as well. Our only conclusion was my lighting.
tank: 8g nuvo
livestock: NO FISH. 3 sexy shrimp, 1 pedersons cleaner shrimp, 1 white spot anemone shrimp, 1 pom pom crab, 1 serpent star, 1 brittle star, and unfortunately my harlequin died last week.
light: nano box tide w/ bluefish controller. 12am-12pm, only on full brightness (100% blues 50% whites) from 4pm-8:20pm.
feeding: last year i was on a very strict feeding regimen of phyto daily, fuel 2x a week, reef roids 2-3x a week, and rod's food 1x a week for the acans and shrimp/inverts. for the last three months i have been tight on money and have run out of food. the tank only gets fed rod's food as of now.
filtration: sumped with a 10.7 which includes: SCA 301 skimmer, IM mini max desktop reactor with phosfiltrum (GFO made by aqua vitro), live rock, cheato, ATO, dosed with a bubble magus (only Alk at this time, Ca has been 470-500 so i haven't been dosing for the last month). gets about a 2g water change every week.
flow: upgraded return pump, and a small hydor pump for DT circulation. (i have an mp10, its too much even all the way turned down.)
the tank normally tests out as:
salinity: 1.025
nitrate: 5-10
phosphate: .03
KH: 8 (was running 10 over the summer, trying to get it back up but battling the high Ca)
Ca: 470-500 (normally 400-420)
mag: 1300-1400
tested with salifert test kits and a calibrated refractometer.
the tank has been set up for one year this month. amphipod and copepod populations are amazing, each of the lower corners are buzzing with pods. its hard not to scrape the glass daily because so many are out and about. it is a mixed reef with sps, lps, and a few mushrooms.
what do i consider no growth? zoanthid frags staying the same amount of polyps for a year straight. ricordia having two mouths but never splitting. having the same amount of euphyllia heads for 6+months.
the ONLY thing that I can see noticeable growth is my JF jack o lantern lepto. has always grown very well for me even through multiple fraggings.
