I even had 4 damsels in the sump at one point in time (holding tank for rhinopias food). did not see an increase in any growth during those three months.

I don't even check in the zos forum and should, but, whats the expected 6 mos growth rate for X colony of zos. I never watched mine to know, but they did add numbers in time. Im curious for a zo-ideal system, whats the expectation for whole polyp additions within 6 mos or a year?

they were just an example, and I know it differs from tank to tank and there is no exact equation, but I have a friend who has her frags double in polyp count in about 3-4months. this is also in an 8g nano.
I'm gonna be hated on for saying it, but it might be your lights. You might wanna try t5 or a 70w metal halide if you can find one. Not having fish shouldn't be an issue because your inverts are eating something so they're obviously pooping something.
How stable has your parameters been? If your dkh swings constantly (which is likely in such a small tank) it could inhibit growth.

yep that's what conclusion that my co workers and I came to as well.
I was going to DIY a T5 because I totally agree with you there but they don't make small enough bulbs. I'm thinking of just getting a xr15 radion honestly.
the kh is dosed by a doser every single day. it doesn't swing too much. i normally keep it higher but it'll been around 8 the last four months. prior to that it was always ran at 10-11 (8months).
How long is the tank? I know there's a 16.5" 18w t5

wow that's surprising. I have a friend with an xr15 over a 3.5g and one with two xr30s over a 75g and they are getting amazing results. our 200g sps tank at work also has radions and is absolutely stunning.

Yea. Just not sure. I am in te same boat as her. I have a mixed reef as well and Sps kept it colors and what not but softies like zoas and palys have absolutely no growth whatsoever. Sps encrusted but never got that major push in like 8 months of use.

I have had the following tanks, all with LPS and SPS: nuvo 16, cad lights 50 long, picotope, 180 gallon marineland, and now a fusion 10. I have had relatively poor growth in all the tanks except, surprisingly, the fusion 10. I, at first, attributed this to exclusive LEd lighting, so I went to t5. Well, that didn't cut it. The current tank in question is essentially and sps frag tank with over 50 frags with great growth from most all corals. The difference? Zero filtration aside from filter socks, even went back to LED. I do weekly 15% water changes and maintain a light bioload. As for the chemisty or physics behind it, no idea. But maybe you have too much going on, as opposed to not enough.

i had a 40 breeder with all the bells and whistles, big skimmer, carbon reactor, gfo reactor, large section with chaeto...in the year and a half i had it it never grew. recently moved and went to a 24 gal aio system with no skimmer, no gfo, carbon in a bag and ive had more growth in the last month than i had the previous year and a half. Im over all the crap at this point. K.I.S.S.
I did make a light change though. Went from Chinese led, to t5 (did see improvement in color but still no growth) on the 40 and on this tank i have a kessil 150, and just bought but have not yet setup an ai prime. the tank seems to want a little more light so the prime should take care of that and give me the controllability ive been missing. Ill see how much difference the prime makes (if any).
