I ORDERED WITHOUT A PERMIT

Literally this whole thread is you asking what's going to happen, are the fish going to die, will you get into trouble, using the emergency tag.
How can something with a two week minimum wait and no course of action possible be an emergency? It was an odd use of the tag right off the bat.

Ordering livestock outside of your own country just seems morally bankrupt to me. Even if they did survive, the stress international travel would put on a creature would be intense.

I know some people view fish as lesser animals, but gawd dang - it's a living thing, have some respect and compassion.

I just kind of wanted to test it. The website I bought through is a 3rd party that just helps ship and everything and they didn’t have it marked as something that would get stopped. They typically will mark things saying that they are either not going to be allowed or will get seized etc.
A 3rd party ?? Hmmm !! :thinking-face:

You do realize that most of the livestock in this hobby comes from outside your country. I think most people on this site would be shocked to learn how much livestock dies in shipping.

@lmfbs is correct. It's fine to make mistakes, but to double down and insist that you did nothing wrong is not the right thing. Don't "experiment" with live animals to save a couple bucks. Which site are you ordering from anyways?

Unreal, XXIc, someone ordered live stock from China without import papers and hoping for the best and trying to arrange import papers post factum. Wow.

Good Luck in not getting Customs Penalty Notice and fine ;)

I ain’t tellin the site cuz then it’s gonna get closed. That person ain’t right, but made sure to order items that are going to have a higher tolerance to shipping.

Thanks boo I’m excited for my penalty notice in the mail

I think you acted in a very irresponsible way without first investigating whether or not you could import fish.
I know that sometimes money does not matter, but we cannot be risking the lives of the poor animals for responsible acts on our part, we are here to promote the hobby!! And not to risk it in an irresponsible and stupid way!

I'm afraid that not very much is going to survive 2+ weeks in the mail. If I am correct, you ordered a starfish and a few crabs? The star will die after two days in the mail, and the crabs after four, give or take a day. I could potentially see some very hardy soft corals making the trip, but nothing else. There's a reason vendors here always use overnight shipping, and even then it sometimes doesn't work out. There's also a significant chance they'll be "disposed of" by customs agents from either country.

Just cancel your order and admit your mistake to yourself and your parents. It really isn't worth it to save some money. I'll also point out that you get what you pay for, and anything you'll receive will be very low quality. Most likely the sickly, deformed, and low-quality specimens the Indonesian collectors wouldn't ship to the US because they knew we wouldn't take them. You certainly won't be getting high quality stuff. If healthy animals were so cheap in China, don't you think we'd see some amazing reef tanks over there?

I'll also point out that if the site would have been shut down if you posted it, it is likely illegally selling things. Reading through your responses on this thread, it doesn't seem like you care about things like that, but I thought I'd let you know. By ordering things illegally, you're making some poor customs agent's day harder. They're going to need to check the laws, confirm that what you're doing isn't legal, alert someone that there's an illegal package, and then dispose of live animals. That's easily an hour of their time which could have been spent helping people and businesses move things internationally within legal limits, and nobody wants to be the guy who puts live crabs in a garbage disposal. Just cancel the order and get animals from your local LFS.

This is genuinely disgusting behaviour and I don't know how you're not embarrassed. You should have the order closed. This will prevent ornamental fish from being needlessly destroyed.

The fact that you're not interested in taking any steps to prevent entirely avoidable suffering and death is awful, and I'm disappointed you're in the hobby.

I guess I am just confused as to your reasoning for ordering livestock from there....your explaination was just to see if they would make it? Is that to test to set up future orders (for stuff you can't get locally) or is it strictly to see if live animals can surive for long periods of time in bags?

I get the impression that they ordered because it was cheaper. They've posted two threads on this sort of thing before, one just talks about buying directly from wholesalers, and the other mentions ordering from China in particular.
