I was just flashed for the first time

I also chose the flashers because of their similarities. I figured the linespot, blue and filamented would be the ones battling because they're so similar. He's probably going after the royal because they're almost the same size and the other 3 are smaller

He is flashing quite often still. None have been near as intense as the first time or during that evening. The best he's doing now is intensifying in color and turning a little purple. He's getting right up next to the glass in the front of the tank and pausing head up and all fins opened. The royal seems to be responding some by also intensifying in color and turning mostly yellow.

And ever since the first time the linespot flashed his tail has remained purple in color instead of red.

It should be purple normally. :p

Which ones have the best displays?
I asked the same question on another thread. Red Tail, Yellow Fin and Blue were thrown out there. Wish I could find a red tail, seem to be pretty rare. My Diamond Tail was pretty amazing too. Like you said the line spot, filamented and blue are similar. Would like to see all three in flash mode to pick a favorite.

To be clear, this is only in consideration of those which get "electric" during nuptial coloration.

Paracheilinus:

The best of the availables: attenuatus, bellae, cyaneus & lineopunctatus, octotaenia, rubricaudalis.
The best of the not-so-availables: nursalim & walton, piscilineatus, rennyae (I'm guessing a bit on this latter one, but I'll wager I'm right :))

filamentosus can be good too, but it needs to be in the upper quality males.

Cirrhilabrus:

[N/A marks the not availables]
Everything in the lubbocki complex [adornatus, cenderawasih (N/A), flavidorsalis, lubbocki, marjorie, walindi (N/A)], everything in the johnsoni complex [brunneus (N/A), johnsoni, lunatus, cf. lunatus, cf. lanceolatus (isosceles), squirei (N/A-ish)], everything in the rubriventralis complex [humanni (N/A), joanallenae, morrisoni (N/A), naokoae, rubriventalis, sp. 2 (kwazulu)], exquisitus, sanguineus (N/A), blatteus (N/A), rubrisquamis

condei is kinda like filamentosus from above - it can be amazing but usually isn't.

There are a few other Cirrhilabrus species which have a few "features" which get electric (like certain fins or strips), but I've left them out in the scheme of the whole.

Thanks for the lists Hunter. Do any of the Cirrhilabrus wrasses display to the degree that Paracheilinus do? I've got Lubbocki, Lineatus and a Bathyphilus which do extend their fins but not the dramatic displaying that flashers do. What one or two fairy wrasses would you pick for their display. Nothing aggressive please. Thanks

So the past two nights I have been messing with the tank right before the lights go out. And for the past two days the linespot has been flashing my clownfish several times. So I guess I need to start paying attention closer to the tanks bedtime to catch him flashing.

My flashers have always been most flashy at feeding time and right before bedtime. Amazing under actinics.

Beautiful Diamond Tail. Looks like they all develope the black body. Mine did.
