With the acrylic back panel, the thickness of the back wall is 19.5mm ~3\4". That will preclude some gyres and pumps from working on the back, so may have to go with a side mount option. I liked the idea of having them on the back wall as they would (seemingly) blend in with the black background.

Everything is just hand tight at this point. Waiting on pump to arrive (Hydor SELTZ D Pump 3200) and then I'll start the manifold.

What made you decide on the Hydor Seltz pump? I have been going back and forth so much trying to decide which pump that I went ahead and ordered a jebao 10000 for now, and will make it my back up pump when I decide.
 
I have a Hydor 2400 on my acrylic tank and it performs nicely. It has a high pitched whine, but not too bad. Limited features (5 speeds, one 5 min feed), but for the money, I think it's a good DC pump. I would have gone with COR, but the reviews are horrible, the flow rate isn't great and they are pricey.

What size pipe do you have coming out of the pump?

That is where your noise is coming from, backpressure. You need to increase your output to the maximum possible 1.5/1.4 inch and gradually reduce to the tank. This will increase flow and eliminate noise.
 
Point well taken, but I think the motor itself has a certain sound regardless of back pressure. For example, there are five speeds on the pump and it has the same tone regardless of which one is chosen. You do hear the increase of RPM associated with each and a slightly different pitch. So, the whine is not annoying, just present.

Those pumps are virtually quiet, when plumbed correctly. You have it reduced down really small, so I think it will make a noise on any speed.

How have you/are you plumbing the pipes in the overflow box? IM calls it bean animal but I have been researching bean animal and it has the u bend pipes on the ends of the straight primary and secondary drain pipes.
 
@Mike Kearns I noticed that too, and have posted about it. From what I have read the bending of the pipes is to keep the external overflow from having a whirlpool effect. Does not really affect the syphon either way. I am going to see if this occurs on my system (coming in tomorrow) and if so insert the j pipes.
