Ion Director delayed again

Everyone can speculate all they want. GHL is not a company to talk a lot until their product is right.
They may have found some flaws, They may have found ways to improve upon it.
Needless to say when it does come out it will work like all their quality equipment.
They will not release a subpar piece of equipment and deal with it as we test it, like many other products released. This is the reason I'm willing to wait.

To be fair eliminating the use of a dosing pump is technically a design change. So having already made the front panels with 4 holes they need to be scrapped for 3 hole panels. As well as they had to reroute/eliminate an internal hose and possibly pinch valve likely. So in the grand scheme it’s a small change but costing them a lot because they have to do a bunch of rework. All of the work they had done to try and get them produced as far as they could with supplies they had is now obsolete. That’s a ton of man hours and material loss. So not something that’s just a knee jerk action. So like I said though I’m disappointed in not getting my unit already , I know that it’s going to be cheaper to use and be better. They want to test new changes a bit more. That’s fair.

Why does the mindstream keep coming up in this? This is an established company, not some kickstart program looking for funds to make an idea they have, hoping for enough to do it.

Agree fully.

Just curious, has anyone ever seen a product demo of an ion director? I haven't been able to find anything, only pictures of the box but never of it being used.
Same question I had asked.

I take the lack of videos as a German cultural thing. I used to work For Volkswagen in Testing capacity and it’s just a thing. I asked once and that was the response. I could be wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time.

We understand your concern and appreciate your patience and understanding. To "We just want to know our money is going to a working product." I can only reply: YES. Even better than originally announced. We already planned a demo, but recorded from a neutral third party. Not to prove something (I believe that most people have confidence in GHL to launch such a product), but to get even more people interested in that amazing product. Stay tuned. Your money is well invested.

There is the xepta, mastertronic, and Ion Director in the same type of setup with the ionic probes. Not sure of total amount similarities between them all, but they are all in a point of development. With things being closed temporarily, some even permanently there is ample reason for some snags in procurement.
I hadn't seen the mastertronic yet. I like their choice of ions to focus on, perhaps even more than the Ion Director. NO3, PO4, Ca, Mg (and then KH with Alkatronic) covers all the main test kits of say Red Sea (foundation and marine). I think the ION Director doing K and Na, trace elements, instead of PO4 is less exciting, at least for me. I know there has been talk about software updates allowing different test down the road, but I think I'd rather get phosphate first and then trace elements of iron, iodine, potassium, sodium second.

Regardless, the delay from GHL is disappointing, but given that this is an entirely new product category, COVID or not, there were always chances of delays or problems. Pre-orders for this kind of thing is a bit of an act of faith (and support). I hope these companies are able to push these out this year, being able to automatically and reliably test for all these, plus the temp, ph, salinity probes we already have is going to be a game changer for the hobby. Question that still is on my mind is where is Neptune in all this?

The letter says they cannot get the probes in time. Now does that mean that their is just a simple delay or did the company that made the probes fold under the Covid Economy. In normal times I would not even think of this kind of issue, but these are not normal times and many companies solid looking veneer is peeling away and your seeing how truly cash poor they are.

Putting that aside the one thing that really bothers me as a design engineer is their statement of redesign and retesting. That is not something any company does on a whim or to "use up time".
They already released videos showing the parts being made, so we know that the main PCB is set in stone unless they have to scrap it. My best guess is that they cannot get the probe from the supplier anymore or the probe started to fail prematurely on the orginal Beta testers. I have not seen one of these Ion based probe systems actually make it to market. The Zepta was supposed to come out over 8 months ago, but it has gone silent.

You are misinformed and misreading the information provided by GHL. These probes are produced in-house by GHL. Covid is just causing a lack of raw materials (when China goes down the entire advanced chemicals/electronics market goes down due to a lack of resources/components) and delivery delays ,they can't produce probes in sufficient amounts in the forseeable future. They don't want to end up in a Mindstream release where they can't even deliver the pre-orders let alone the new orders after release. That can only end in a sh..stream of complaints that isn't good for business.

LOL who told you GHL produces Ion Probes? Production of Ion probes is a whole production facility onto itself, with specialized engineers and machinery. A Company like NTsensors is most likely who they get the probes from NTSensors or some other big company that makes probes for the Chemical and Medical industry.

I find it amazing how all these threads end up being "highjacked" by arguing Know it alls trying to prove how smart they are. Basically why I don't post much. Most threads don't stay on track

Honestly, while it may be disappointing, it should not have come as a surprise that a product that was originally slated for a time of year that would end up being the Covid19 Pandemic, was delayed. We're all eager to get our hands on it. I've got some money tied up in multiple units so there's that.

I'm grateful that GHL took the down time afforded to them to discover a way to re-engineer their already great project. As a small business owner I've found that making the most of every moment of time in this current world is of the utmost importance and I applaud GHL for providing us with great products that already have and will continue to make our lives easier.

Less time for work and more time to enjoy our hobby, this will keep us sane and I'm all for sanity.
