Ion Director delayed again

Nobody has any clue. You claim to, yet never post proof :). I would love to hear more factual information about MS, maybe even from them! The "I can't say who or what, but just trust me!" comments make it impossible for me to take the product or it's defenders seriously.

If they opened another Kickstarter or pre-order today, would you send SAI your money again?
That is because I have been asked not to give out any specific info. There are others on this forum who know what is going on and they can back me up. Let me ask you, why is it that you think they are keeping the website and the computational servers running if the company is dead and gone?

My guess was the hosting contract hadn't expired? Please enlighten us or share who the other knowledgeable forum members are. Maybe one of them can be convinced to provide detail, facts, anything more?

I'm glad you got it taken care of. For what it is worth, and you didn't ask me so I apologize, but I would have recommended you waiting. I mean get the refund because that would have been important to me as well if I was in your shoes. What I mean though is that you already have a controller so would only be buying it to control the testing unit. Also I know you are not a fan of reagents (not stirring the pot - just from our previous conversations). Sounds like you will get some money moved around by selling the energy bar so may not be an issue.

I was just thinking if you are manually testing today it may be worth it to wait it out. In any case hope all is well with you and yours.
Thanks :)
I wanted my money back so that it could cover most of my expenses on the Trident and Apex.
As you know I hate manual testing and the hate relationship has gotten a lot worst since I started to see a way to avoid doing it. I just cannot go another seven months waiting on a water tester to come out. I really do hate the whole reagent thing with the Trident and I know that the plastic couvette inside the unit is going to stain after a period of time, but at least I can get it now and not have to wait.

All is well with the family, I hope all is well with yours.

You can ask @lexinverts, but I doubt he will be anymore specific. Honestly it does not matter to me if you trust or don't trust me. There are a number of people who worship at the Neptune alter on this forum, so I agree with Mindstream and GHL, that the least amount of info given out on here is in their best interest.

The hosting contract status is unknown to me, but as you can see someone is going on the site and maintaining it. The last time I talked to them was just before USA Covid outbreak and I was told they are still using the old building location. So as of 10 weeks ago the rent, electric etc was still being paid. I have not talked to anyone since but I doubt that anything has changed.

And yes I would buy a Mindstream Via Kickstarter this evening if they opened up a webpage for it.

Back to the topic at hand with the Ion Director delay. The said in the Email that it is taking longer to produce some parts. If say a injection mold breaks and the mold company is closed at this time how do you produce? You don’t, you have to wait. Not saying that is the issue but you kind of get the point. They have their own testing/engineering units and have found improvements that they are trying to implement into the rollout. They are going to extend the rollout to get those changes further tested, and verified viable. It says that in the email as well. The release date was to be March 30 as the initial pre-order said. If you paid it day one of preorder starting it was still only going to arrive at best March 30. Now with the delay I could see having the potential to be near a year of paying. But that doesn’t mean it’s delayed a year. If you are unhappy with that then ok. You can get your money back and get something else. I have been looking forward to this for awhile. I already paid for it. They are improving it while I wait, though I would like to have it now, it’s just not so. I actually have a lot of things that I have paid for that I’m waiting on because of backorders and lack of production capacity right now. @GHL is the only one I’ve received any word about what’s going on about it. Hell I ordered something for the wife from Jo Anne fabric almost a month ago for Mother’s Day and can’t get an email response from them, and I send one every day asking about it. How many people you think work there. I know GHL in the US is only a couple people. And I’ve chatted candidly with Vinny a few times. Can’t wait to meet him in person one of these days.

No, MindStream.

As far as the two companies go - I don't have an issue and don't believe it is related to either market share or transparency. But it is just my opinion but will also say I'm probably biased. I've been a Neptune owner since 2000. However, when I do discuss things like this I try to be unbiased and if answer say why.

There is some merit to bias, but there is also a large difference between a kickstarter and a company in the hobby since the 90s.

The letter says they cannot get the probes in time. Now does that mean that their is just a simple delay or did the company that made the probes fold under the Covid Economy. In normal times I would not even think of this kind of issue, but these are not normal times and many companies solid looking veneer is peeling away and your seeing how truly cash poor they are.

Putting that aside the one thing that really bothers me as a design engineer is their statement of redesign and retesting. That is not something any company does on a whim or to "use up time".
They already released videos showing the parts being made, so we know that the main PCB is set in stone unless they have to scrap it. My best guess is that they cannot get the probe from the supplier anymore or the probe started to fail prematurely on the orginal Beta testers. I have not seen one of these Ion based probe systems actually make it to market. The Zepta was supposed to come out over 8 months ago, but it has gone silent.

I'm relatively new to the GHL game, but I still pre-ordered, and I'm willing wait it out. Has there been or has anyone actually seen a video of the IOND performing a test? Or screen shots of the results? From what I gather, there are/were beta testers, and I understand NDA'a, but at this point a sneak peek might calm the masses.

There is the xepta, mastertronic, and Ion Director in the same type of setup with the ionic probes. Not sure of total amount similarities between them all, but they are all in a point of development. With things being closed temporarily, some even permanently there is ample reason for some snags in procurement.

Yeah this was one of the things that I could never understand. At least Mindstream did a number of videos showing you the product working. I have no doubt the Ion Director works but I could never figure out the marketing strategy of going this far into the game without at least one good video of the thing in operation taking realtime readings.

Wouldn't it be great if they figured out how to add another element for testing prior to release (as these are likely to be software updates anyway)

Have to disagree with you @robbyg around the redesign adn retesting. The spare time was forced upon them from COVID so why woudln't they use this time wisley and tweak/improve their product?

I am not talking about software improvements. They could of course spend all the time doing that.
From what I am gathering they are talking about hardware redesign. This is odd since they have claimed to have made most of the parts already and have shown pictures and a video to back that up.
To redesign the hardware would mean parts that they might have already made would be scraped and you then have the big headache of beta testing it again for several months or in best practices it would be closer to a year of additional testing. I would be worried because if they do that and then the Beta tests reveal a problem on the redesign, that would add a lot more time to the new release date.

For a guy who isn’t buying this platform anymore you sure spend allot of time talking it down. There’s allot who are still looking forward to the ION. I would say your assumptions are just that. Enjoy your trident.

And who said I am not buying it? I clearly said that when it is released I will most likely buy one! Also I am not some poster who had no skin in the game. I paid my money and waited until the delay became unreasonable to me.
I actually gave them more time than I did for the Mindstream.

Sorry I must of missed the mention of hardware upgrades. As I haven't actually pre-ordered I am only skim reading.

No problem, the announcement came as a surprise to me also.

From GHL
Fair enough – but when will it finally be delivered?
Since the aforementioned procurement problem already causes a delay anyway, we have decided to start right from the beginning with the latest and best design possible, even if this will delay the delivery even more.
In order to detect and eliminate all potential problems in advance – also with regard to the new design – extensive field tests are planned with our beta testers before delivery. In addition, a safety buffer for possible future procurement and logistics problems need to be considered.

None of that says a hardware design change. A change in suppliers of some components maybe.
Ok we must be interpreting that statement completely differently. Maybe "New Design" means something else. I don’t see the word software or interface mentioned!
