is it worth it? hanna checker

was looking into getting a hannah marine master and was wondering if it was worth the investment. trying to find something to help me hit all the corner paramaters precisely and was thinking this might be it. any info helps

Hanna testers are very inconsistent in my opinion. I unfortunately own a bunch of them and consider it my biggest waste of money in reefing. And there's a bunch of ways to waste money in this hobby.

Personally i love my hanna testers. The salinity checker, the phosphate checker and the alk checker are the 3 that I use frequently, they work perfectly for me.

@flashsmith @notrosh im sorry to hear that what dont u like about them/ what would u get instead? i was thinking since the master is of a higher class checker used in the field itd hopefully be better/ more accurate than the standard hannah checker. as for the rest what do u like about them vs other products?

The only one I think is worth is 100% would be the ULR phosphate/phosphorus since most phosphate test kits are nearly unreadable at the ideal levels which is obviously an issue. The nitrate HR is convenient, especially if you are colorblind like me. The alk test is completely unnecessary since alk tests are the easiest things in the world even for people with similar colorblindness to mine. Calcium and magnesium are eh imo since again, a non digital test kit is normally fine for it and way cheaper.

@Spare time my problem is that my tests have been coming out innacurate most of the time w my phos and nit like u said and thats not good. i was hoping w something like the master i could hit everything in one go and hopefully all be accurate enough to have long term stability in the tank.

Been using Hanna alk, ulr phos, and hr nitrate for years with no complaints. I have pH also but I rarely check pH. How accurate are they? I dunno I've never compared them to anything. I'm more concerned with consistency than the actual number. I would probably splurge for the master if I wasn't already invested in the testers I have.

Some are great, some are inconsistent.

Read instructions as some require a press when measuring and some require a press and hold (for count down timer) for the final step of measuring.

@exnisstech 100% thats what i want is consistency and hopefully accuracy for the long road. ill put u down for a tick in the yes column lol and @BZOFIQ which would u say are the inconsistent, and would u say yay or nay for the master splurge?

Are the vials scratched at all? Do you use a linty free cloth to handle and wipe them before and after every test? Are the vials rinse with rodi water everytime when done? Lots of things can throw the tests off.

@Propane are you talking about the hannah readers? or another brand, and @Spare time i dont use rodi but i do give them a good scrub w a micro cloth after each test. my problem has been the color matching since the ideal param colors are all very similar

I’m talking about Hanna. I only like the Alk,phosphate,and nitrate by them. The others are multiple steps just like the rest.

Oh my bad I was thinking you were talking about the hanna tests. However, rinsing with RODI is never a bad idea with test kits if you can.

To be honest, I don't know who to trust.

Lfs 1 - used salifert, had very different results from my home test, which were also salifert.
Lfs 2 - used hanna, way different results to both mine and lfs 1.
My second home test, hanna checkers, brand new bought because I didn't know who to believe, way different numbers than everyone.
