I've had this BTA for about 3 weeks. Started out great, eating well and settled in a spot. About 4 or 5 days ago he moved to the back of the tank and didn't look good. Today he came back to his original spot but looks like this...

Should I fill out a DNR for him now and get his last will together or is a possible comeback in the books?

Thank you.

I think he will be ok they tend to move and then close up like that give him a couple of days then call 911 . Something may be bugging him or he may just be looking for just the right spot . I have a red and green . originally the green was stable and didn't move for about 2 months the red on the other hand couldn't stay still now a few months later the Red is solid in a good spot and hasn't moved for weeks. The green on the other hand has split and went its separate ways ... you just never know about Nems

I'm starting to think he's taking a turn for the worse... Now he looks like this:

what lights are you using if he is attached to that rock you may want to flip it so that he can get more light also consider buying a small plastic basket with holes in it to allow light and flow they have them at Walmart they can float stick the nem in it with rock it may recover if not at least you can easily remove it from your tank before it causes a crash. Don't give up just yet .

also have you been feeding him sometimes they close up like that after eating too much

I haven't fed him in a week. I have an orbit marine pro right now but upgrading to a maxspect If he wants more light he can easily move higher so I don't think that's it.

They do like med to high water movement just Not directly.
The spot he's in now gives him exactly that. My ALK is a little high so I quit dosing yesterday and none today. My ALK was at 12 and Calcium at 440 2 days ago.

I never dose just feed tank and phyto once in a while Nems are doing fine

Try feeding him. I have used flake food, pellets. brine shrimp and other meaty stuff. Once the except pellets that is pretty much all they get. I had 10 RBA's at one time before I sold and gave away them all. they got to big. My largest one was 12" X 7" across. P1000202.JPG

I don't think he would take food closed up like that.

Yeah I waited 3 months to add him but you're probably right on it not being up and running long enough.

put some flake food in you fingers and swish it gently inside. Be careful not to touch him or will not likely accept it. while it is normal for them to be closed for a day or so, past 2 days there maybe another issue. If his stomach goes inside out and does not return in 24 hours, this is not good at all. Tossing idea's right now. Oh just an idea, reduce your light intensity if you can. Use egg crate diffuser or screening above it for awhile. Good Luck.:confused:

Anemones are finicky and while people want I suggest minium 6 months before getting. What do you have the pro set at?

It's set to schedule 2. Which is 7 hours of low/medium intensity lighting, 30 minute sunrise sunset and no moonlight. I changed it to this when I started getting red cyano. But he was acting before the switch.

You say before the switch, when did you switch and what did you have before? Ive got the pro and really like it.

I was on schedule 1 before the switch. I still have the pro until next week when I upgrade to the maxspect

How long ago was this? Sorry for all the questions, but if we can nail down things in a timeline roughly it makes it easier sometimes to figure out what went wrong when.

I tried feeding him about a week ago he didn't want it. He then moved to the back of the tank and didn't look good. A few days later I changed the light settings to the current one to battle the red cyano. Today is the first day he moved back to his old spot. I take that as a good sign and it gives me hope. I also think the high ALK bothered him so hopefully by not dosing the lower levels bring him back.
