jgraz's 90 up grade

Yup-thats the one. I like it. Going to have to add it to the collection. Those sun pics are sweet by the way.

Looks great man! Good luck with the pellets, watch your alk and phosphate levels. Once my phosphates get too low I like to lower the amount of flow through the pellets. I am not sure you named the pellets or if I just missed it which pellets are you using?

Thanks. I'm using ecobak. I'm about 2 months in and phosphates are still not going down. At last check the were .14 on a Hanna. I loaded a canister of rowa and ran it for a couple of weeks and it was down to .02, pulled the rowa and today after a week it was back up. Not sure what to make if this.

The ammount recommended is more of a guidline. U may just have to much nutrients. How many fish and how much u feed per day?

I'm using about 3/4 of the total recommend amount. I feed once a day but far from heavy. My load however is up there. 11 fish included in that are three tangs though all three under 3.5". My colors seem good at least I think. Look at my coral pics and tell me what you think. Maybe I should cut back the feedings a bit or go to the full dose of pellets. What do you think?

Ur corals look excellent. Im just speaking on getting ur po4 down. Tangs produce a lot of waste even when small. U probly just need to up ur pellets to full and see how it goes to maintain low po4. A local reefer i know uses 1500 ml in a 180 and its still not enough because he has lots of big tangs. I use 500ml inm my 180 but i have algae scrubber to do most of the work.

I'll bump up it this weekend and see how things progress.

I'm also planning on blowing off the rocks this weekend to give them a good cleaning. That might help out too. One thing I can say is I have zero nuisance algae anywhere in the system.

Well Its been a bit since I updated this so here I go.

In another case of bad luck It seems I came across AEFW's somewhere along the way. I noticed some of my corals looking unhappy about 3 weeks ago and had a friend come by and comfirm my findings and it did indeed look like bite marks on a few of my acros. The worst looking of the bunch was a purple bonsai that has just never looked right. So I dipped it and sure enough there they were. So began the process of dipping, not an easy task as most of my stuff is well encrusted at this point. I do believe that I caught the problem early on however, since I have seen very few of them after dipping. The only eggs I have come across were on a small milli frag and those were scraped off and glued over. The latest dip this past weekend only produced 2 very small worms and inspection of each and every piece with a magnifying glass turned up no eggs. Also this past weekend I went with a round of prazi since there is some debate about whether it can be an in-tank treatment for AEFW's, I figured what the heck.

Round one of dips was with Coral RX and went at the corals with a turkey baster. This dislodged the worms but i noticed that they did not die even after they remained in the dip water for over 30 min. Round 2 was with Bayer and turkey baster, same results worms dislodged but they did not die right away, but after about 20 min they did. Thats when I realized I only used the dip at 1/2 strength by mistake. Round 3 will be this weekend with full strength bayer. As of today almost all of the bite marks that I seen are already healing over and I have noticed no new marks as of yet. I also began using Zeo Flatworm Stop on the day I found the worms. I know it dosent kill them but I must admit I have seen many of my colors becoming more intense since starting it. So I will continue with it.

Other news, Right around the same time I found the AEFW's I noticed that my Hawkins colony looking a bit shabby as well. No bites, just blah. I also noticed a little STN so I cut off the dead parts and replaced it. No dip. The STN continued and pretty much turned to RTN yesterday. This morning I pulled out the colony and fragged anything that looked alive, dipped and put it back. I don't expect the dipped frags to make it though. When i did dip there was no AEFW's on the colony though.

On to the good news. The coral group buy I took part in arrived and it looks like we had a nice pull. As for now everything is still in QT and doing well. I also just found out the my dosing canisters came in today so I will finally be able to get my 2-part automated. Thats about it for now.

Bummer been following your tank and hate to hear....best of luck getting it squared away!

Well I dipped for round 3 this morning. Used Bayer again at the 30ml per gal dose. Dipped everything and found 2 AEFW's this time. I inspected everything with a magnifying glass and glued over anything that may have been eggs. I think I may have found some though I'm not positive since the glass was a bit cheap, I gotta get a better one for next round. As I said I found 2 worms left in the dip water. One was very tiny and dead, the 2nd was a bit larger and well still alive. This is a bit disappointing since I have heard very good things about dipping with Bayer. All corals were in the water for at least 10 min some a bit longer. And I used the water for two rounds of corals. After the second round of corals the water stood for about 10 more min while I was cleaning up. So at minimum this worm was in the dip for at least 20min possibly more. Along with that I saw a few other little things moving around as well. For the next round I guess I'll be shelling out the money for Reef Pest Solutions stuff. That's it for now. Thanks for reading.

Bayer will not kill the AEFW, it just makes the worms dislodge from the coral for removal. And is by far the best dipping method for AEFW. With continued use (seven weeks, seven dips) the AEFW will most likely be ridden from the system. Best of luck with these nasty pests.

I suppose I'll keep on rocking then.

Hopefully, you can kick the AEFW soon. Glad you had a nice pull with the group coral buy!

How are your corals turning out. Mine at still in QT.

I lost a couple :(. Some are doing great and some are a work in progress. I did win some frags in the raffle at the last meeting and they are doing awesome!!

New addition. Been hunting since he went in. Got him from a fellow reefer that was afraid he was getting hungry. Six line bothers him every now and then but he seems not to care for now. As slow as he move I still can't seem to get a good pic.
