The longer I have the skimmer the more I cant wait to see what this does on a larger tank. My 65 is a bit small for this skimmer but the reason I got it was to put on my 125g build. The skimmer is built just like I would expect and ATB to be. It is dead silent. No noise at all from the pump. It is a premium line of skimmer for sure. I havent hooked it up but it comes with the float switch for the skimmer cup to shut the pump off if the cup is full. This is nice but I know most people that want the best and are going to spend the $$$ on something like this probably wont want to go through the hassle of wiring this up themselves. It is nice because you could easily tie this into a reefkeeper sl1 or a apex and have it shu the skimmer off that way. it would take about 10 min and the plug to make this happen.

This skimmer falls right between the 1050 deluxe and 840 deluxe. I could see this being ran on tanks heavily stocked from about 100,120 to 200g, and more volume as the load goes down.

The nice thing about this skimmer is the conical shaped neck. it does help keep the skimmate coming when the load goes down. I would put this in the same category as a bk mini 180 gen2/200 gen 2 and super marin 200. All great skimmers and actually the elegance would be the cheapest of the bunch.

Hope this helps some of you on the fence.

ok did a bunch of playing around with it tonight. Actually went over to a buddy's house and put it on his system. Its about 180 gallon system with everything. His sump has a 8.5 in water level. I found this to be too high for the regular elegance 200. So then we made a stand and brought it to 6 in deep. Found this to be too shallow for it really. Went back and forth and found the sweet spot to be about 7 to 7.5 inches. THis is where I still had room to adjust it and the water level in the skimmer was right too. I am going to leave it run there till sunday or monday and see how it does . The tank was running a k2 before the elegance. By the time I left the house it had already made a 4 in foam head and was collecting skimmate. we will see how it does over the next 3 or 4 days.

Mojo,

I was considering this skimmer for my 100 gallon sps tank. My skimmer compartment is 14 1/4x 14 1/4 do you think it would fit, or would I need to look at the pro model. I wanted the external pump for more reaction time, but if I must i could go with the pro model.

this will fit. i had mine in 14 x12, 20 long sump

Mojo, not to sidetrack thread but have you tried the atb 840 v2.0??? I remember you were a fan of the 1.5, but if the new pump is better and I don't have to start swapping pinwheels that would be great for me(this would be for moderately stocked 150 gal sps heavy tank)

Any update on this? I have a K2 skimmer as well and would love to see if there will be a difference.

Well I can't give you all of the techy stuff mojo knows, there is a big difference between the K2 and ATB. Mojo actually came over after I begged him to so I could see how it stacked up against my K2. Needless to say, the K2 didn't go back in and the ATB is still in my sump:wink:. Before that, I loved the K2 and it was a good performer on my tank. The ATB is just a little better, plus I can break it down to clean thoroughly. Here is a shot of the ATB's skim-mate the very next day.

the Elegance moves quite a bit more water than the k2. The elegance is a step up from the k2 for sure. nice unit. the k2 is still a good skimmer. better than most of the new ones on the market. but it isnt aatb elegance with an askol pump

Thank for the update. My biggest gripe against my K2 is that fact that I can't break it down to clean.
