Just Ridiculous

This can't be real. From Battle Corals.

I agree with the market determining what something should cost...note I ‘should cost’ and not ‘is worth’.

But the amount of false advertising out there is absurd. If I have to have the corals under 20k and wear orange glasses to see the color in the photo, then that’s not what color it is.

The other problem I have is using pricing to corner the market. If these corals were priced at what they’re probably worth, and far more people buy them, then what happens? Everybody has them, there are far more colonies out there growing like crazy, the market gets flooded, and there go the huge margins like paying $200 wholesale for a bounce, cutting it up, giving them 3 months, and selling them at $800ea.

Fragging has been a blessing in this hobby. But it’s got a bad side, too. A lot of noobs in reefing get taken advantage of, IMO.

Adam is just saying the coral grows so slow for him he probably won't ever get to frag it at that rate. I don't think any of his stuff belongs in this topic. If his price is high on a coral it has a very good reason to be like that.

Not a complete joke. $1,000,000 is what it would take to frag it. I wonder if that’ll be 1/2” or full inch frag

I believe I’ve seen mention from him a few lucky ones have received a frag as part of a big battle box.

Agreed. I've seen his stuff at shows and bought a few JF frags but nothing too special in my opinion. The frag sizes are way too small for the price. His expensive "zoas" are especially frustrating to me since they seem to always be weed paly type that takeover a tank in a few months...

And if your going to charge these prices JF, maybe take the time to write a better description of your corals. If a 1/2" is worth some $500+ you'd think you could come up with an interesting sentence or 2 to say about it.

Battle Corals is where it's at. I won't buy sps from one else now. His stuff is always priced fairly and in great health. Battle corals also seems to price more fairly based on the growth rate of corals vs. artificial rarity. Take the vivid confetti for example which he just started selling at only $150 compared to some $350 at vivid. While an exceptional acro, it is a very fast grower that shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Adam seems to get this which is much appreciated. I have the money to buy from the likes of JF and Vivid but no longer will due to their blatant overpricing IMO.
Battlecorals are overpriced too!

A $700 frag is cheap when you pay $35 for one entry of 20 on a “raffle” (aka gambling) [emoji108]

You all don't think that this stuff gets sold at these prices, do you? Most of it gets traded or sold at swaps for a fraction. I am sure that there might be a sale here or there. One of those 2k corals just went at auction on ebay... 220 something maybe?

Bounces, jawbreakers and Colorado Sunburst nems are different... these things go for large money all day. I don't get it either, but I also grow bounces since they are the best way to fund your hobby.

I am sure that for $1,000,000, Adam would sell you every frag that he has, including the fairy food.

Why would you buy a Ferrari when you can get a Corvette ZR1 that will out perform it, for a third of the price?

Folks make silly choices... as long as they're spending their own money... eh. It's capitalism. The buyer and seller agree on the price, and, well, that's what it's worth.

My limit on corals is a hundred bucks... and that's gotta be some coral. Might go a bit more than that for a clam. Most of the frags I buy are under $30.

If all the buyers quit paying stupid money for coral frags, the coral farmers would quit asking stupid money for them. As long as they're getting it, well, that's what it's worth.

I'll spend money like its water on my tank equipment. I draw the line on over priced fish and corals. Only thing in my tank that cost more than $100 was my purple tang.

I hear ya! I love the natural shapes and colors of the stony corals. Everyone call my cinnamon clown Nemo
Everyone says, "Oh look nemo! At my GSM. I'm like um no she would chew up nemo for breakfast. Thus she is now "Devil Nemo".

As long as there is a demand they will charge the insane prices. The problem isn't that they are charging $700.00 a frag, the problem is that people are paying $700.00 a frag. If we all said, "heck no!" That frag would come down in price. That having been said I'd like to see how many people with living room reef tanks are paying that price vs. how many retailers are buying it just to make a quick buck by growing and fragging it for $600.00 a frag.

I want some corals that don't have the insane prices, but used to. I'm patient I'll just wait for the cost to come down or find someone locally who fragged one and thinks charging that much is ridiculous too (it happens). My one exception is Walt Disney, I plan on getting a frag, but in my area the cost of it is already coming down as the scarcity of frags is dropping. That's just my $0.02, $0.01 after taxes.
