When I get my tank up and running do I start kalk drip right away or wait till I get corals. OR TEST and start to add when it starts to go down?

You should have a reason for adding anything. Kalk will help with calcium/alkalinity/raises PH. If those need to be improved that’s a reason to drip it. You won’t likely need this until you have significant coralline development and stony coral growth in the tank. Water changes are a very effective way to replace lost elements early on, especially if using a mix like red sea pro.

I ran two tanks previously with zero dosing for a year each, granted, one was soft corals only and other was LPS only.
Water changes alone is more than good enough on smaller tanks with those types of corals.

You only need to dose anything if something is consuming it (Alk/Ca).

Starting with instant ocean should I use something different.

Instant Ocean is fine, many people use it, but there are many options, depending on what parameters you want to achieve, right now you don’t know though, so stay with what you have.

Just plan to do weekly 10% water changes, or 20% Bi-weekly, until you start stocking up.
Honestly little point even testing those params until you start stocking with corals.
Do you have any corals already and what’s your plan?

I am in the beginning of getting everything ready. I have a 125 reef ready . My 110 pounds of rock is in a trash can .right now I have .25 nitrites. So I have time to study up so I can do it right.

Also, IO is a simple salt mix. That’s fine too!
I use the Reef Crystals and have done this for over ten years I believe.

I’ve also found Reef Crystals to be cheaper than the IO too. You can literally get a 5G bucket for $30 and if you look and shop very smart, you can get that price down to $24.

Based off what you said above, you shouldn’t be dosing Kalk. If there is zero coral and not Coralline algae, you’ll be over dosing and could mess up the balance.

I did see anywhere on the ago of this bee tank? How long has it been set up? Have you got past the ugly stage? The rock in the trash can, is it cycling? If not, as soon as you start putting rock in there it could cause an algae boom.

Yes I am cycling it right now. I bought a rodi system 50 gallon a day . And have started filling it about three quarters of the way I figure about 140 gallons for tank and sump. After I start the pumps I will get a few fish to keep bacteria up .or should I populat with pods first

I agree with previous posts that you don’t need to do anything but wait for rock and tank to cycle, do periodic water changes, minimize light and algae if at all possible.

You should get this:
dr tims bacteria starter

You should not start getting any fish or coral anytime until your past the ugly stage and you’re tank is stable. But if you really wanted to get a fish to start that’s very hardy, get a Damsel, never seen a dead one before. Good luck at catching it too, as soon as you put one in your tank they’re very fast and hard to catch.

I would not do that even to a damsel. I am doing the fishless cycle . I am on day 12 with a piece of talopia about the size of a quarter. My ammonia is at 2 and nitrite at .25 I know Dr. Tim's or bacteria 7 would help but I am in no hurry so I am going to let nature take its course.
