Killing blue cloves with fluke tabs

I thought you mentioned your sinularia didn't take well to the treatment? I am OK with losing a few snails and my shrimp but wouldn't want to lose that. Maybe I can have a friend baby sit for me. Same with the shrimp if I can catch it. I have a beautiful neon green one that I would hate to lose but the cloves are popping up everywhere.

I lost a huge sinularia during the treatment. I knew it was a gamble but I had enough friends with frags I risked loosing the piece. It turned hard like wood and started turning black. I pulled it out before it started crumbling apart.

The larvae of blue cloves can be anywhere so there was no sense treating the tank at all if I wasn't going to treat every rock.

I did have success with a green polyp toadstool by removing it and dipping it in a separate fluke tab dip. I kept it in the frag tank afterwards and move it back to the display after the treatment. It made it through fine but I only soaked enough of the coral to treat the rock.

Interesting, it took Xenia out faster than anything for me. I didn't have sympodium.

I had the opposite. My xenia went after the blue cloves but before GSP and leathers.

Does this get rid of GSP as well? I have a nice rock that has some zoas and GSP on it, and I'd definitely like to get rid of the GSP by soaking the rocks for a couple days or something like that.

Yes. It takes a bit longer but it works.

What is in these things? I found something for sale online but not sure if it the same active ingredient? Is it the ones made by aquarium products?

Each 500mg tablet contains (methyl-5-benzol-benaimidizole-2-carbamate) and (dimethyl 2,2,2-trichloro-1-hydroxyethyl) phosphonate).

Also interested in where people are getting these. Looking for just a couple to use as a dip. Too many things that I want to keep (actually like my GSP and have it on an island) to treat whole tank, but have some rocks with zoas/acans that I would like to treat and can remove.

update BCP is def gone 100%. The sympodium is in BAD shape but actually still hanging in there. Not sure if it will continue to wither away or if it will make a come back. Its does not matter to me either way though. I ended up using 1 tab for net 70 gallons of water and ran skimmer while dosing also. I did stop GFO and carbon RX though. I then hit it with a 30% water change and all is good.

Great easy treatment like the old interceptor treatments on redbugs from years past. Painless too

Forgot to mention my NO3 was pretty much undetectable before and now I am getting .5 ppm 10 days after treatment.. Just an FYI

ran skimmer while dosing also.

Good to know. I turned my skimmer off for 3 days when I treated the display. I only turned it off overnight when I treated the frag tank and it was still effective.

I'm hoping someone will use about 1/2 the dose when they treat to see if it still works. I don't think anyone has veered far away from the 1 tab per 100 gallons guess. I'd be willing to bet half the dose would still work but I don't have anything to test it on anymore.

For those that have nuked anthelia this way, how badly does it stink when it's dying off?

I have quite a bit of anthelia in my DT and would like to kill of as much out of the DT before I do an in-tank treatment. I have three anthelia covered rocks that I can remove and treat in a bucket for 2-3 days or whatever's necessary to kill the anthelia. This bucket would be in the basement so temps would range from 65-70...Would I be OK with just an air stone or do I need a heater, too? Also, could I use prime to neutralize and ammonia from the die off? This would get rid of about 1/4th of my anthelia and I must just get lucky with any residual chemical nuking the rest of the anthelia in the DT when I return the rocks. Anyone see anything wrong with this approach?

Has anyone treated that uses zeovit? I'm just wondering if I could get any additional insight before I dive in! Thanks!

Well I took 1/4 of a tablet and soaked a few rocks in a 5g bucket for 45 minutes. The rocks also had some sps attached like oregon tort, myagi tort, and some porites I think they will be fine. I will post back and let you all know if this dip was enough to wipe out surrounding rocks. If it works I am hoping to just soak some rocks in the dip and place them in areas with a high concentration of bcp to systematically wipe them out. Too chicken to try it directly in my dt at this point!

Where do you guys get the tabs?

I have a few buddies who own aquarium maintenance business's. They have alot of stuff saved up from over the years including a handful of fluke tabs. They dont make them anymore anywhere that I know of. You just gotta beat the brush and hopefully someone you know has some! I would offer to sell a few but I only have two left!

Can anybody confirm if the pills I mentioned in post 86 are the same thing?

Ok I had pretty good success with the method I used. I just took 1/2 of a tablet and disolved it in about 3.5g of water. I took three medium sized rocks out and a few smaller rocks. I soaked them with a heater and powerhead for 45 minutes. These rocks also had sps encrusted on them and the sps are fine. I made sure that I really put the power head to good use the last five minutes and completely blasted the rocks. I placed the rocks back into the tank after the dip without rinsing them. I am on day five and my anthelia, xenia, and bcp are almost completely gone. My coco worm and mantis shrimp both made it through the treatment as well as my harlequin shrimp and porcelain crab. I got a slight diatom bloom but that was about it. Make sure you have a good supply of salt, di resin, and gfo before starting!

Did you turn off your skimmer? And are you running GFO and GAC during this 5 day period?

If your asking me specifically I left the filtration in place. I didnt do a wc until day 4 or 5 and I replaced carbon gfo etc...
