Hi! Have you glued those coral to the glass at the back? I thinking of doing this with some of my SPS, but not sure if it's a good idea or not.

I've done it with epoxy and super glue. Usually to overflows, as the glass will only hold it for so long until a fish bumps it off, or it just falls off. I used to have montis growing off my overflows, those were fun to remove when I broke the tank down.

I have done it in the past but not in this tank. I use the magnetic Frag stations from alternative reef for some extra space for frags. I have seen some really cool tanks where people have done it. You can also look into magnetic Frag plugs to try it out. If you wind up not liking it you can remove them if the coral hasn't encrusted onto the glass.

Scott over at the Alternative Reef makes some great magnetic frag racks. He uses the same magnets that the Algae Free glass cleaners use, so you know they are not going anywhere. Worth checking out!

I love all of Scott's products. I will never use another Frag plug! An upgrade would be a little ways off if I can swing it so hopefully everything fills in. I would certainly consider the DSA 105 just worried about some things I have been hearing about them "restructuring" and a lot of there tanks being unavailable because of it. I'm really Considering having a custom tank built, this is of course if I can come up with the money. If so it would be similar dimensions as the DSA but with a ghost (or similar) overflow. Don't want to get too ahead of myself but a guy can dream, right? Lol

Today the 57 rimless is officially 2 years old. It's had its ups and downs and a move in the 2 years, with right now being a little down. I'm experiencing a bad diatom issue and some corals are not happy with it. It's starting to get better so hopefully I will kick it soon. Here's some progression pics.

Figured I would start a build thread for my new tank. As some may know I lost my tank during hurricane sandy. I tossed the old tank and am finally starting a new build. I helped a friend of mine plumb his new 180 and he let me have the 57 he had setup before the 180. Tanks is an oceanic 57g rimless, the dimensions are 36"x18"x21". Here it is when I picked it up a little over a week ago.

I took some time to clean it up and here is how it looks now.

I spent today constructing the stand. Dimensions are 36.5"x18.5" and 36" tall. I wanted the stand to be a bit taller than a "factory" stand for better viewing. Here are some pictures from today.

My plan for tomorrow is to get the doors made, paint the back glass an hopefully get a coat of paint on the stand.

Thank you! I used a brand new razor blade and a squirt bottle with vinegar in it. For the tough places like the overflow I soaked a towel in vinegar and let it sit on it for a while and then used a scrub pad like the ones used for cleaning aquarium glass.

Thanks for the info. I recently got a used 90 gallon with coralline all over the over flow. Can you leave that stuff in the tank it's pretty much white now or do we need to remove it? Will it mess with the tank once water is in there? Might be a weird question but if I have to clean it I'll get to it!

I would at least scrape off any loose pieces. Other than that I can't see it causing any issues if you leave it.

It's looking great, you have done a fantastic job with it. I'm going through an algae bloom right now, do to overdosing nitrates, hopefully I will have it under control soon. Good luck with yours!!!
