Oversized skimmer + strong lighted refugium (+ dosing which isn't in the picture) = no waterchanges :)

Been a while since I shared a photo of my sump closet... This one's from a month or so back.

That's a Bashsea sump back there...

Definitely a work in progress. I need to build my control cabinet out
Nice!
Wuick question on the external skimmer, since I may upgrade in the future and I’m currently building my second fishroom-

what’s the ‘rule’ regarding how you place it compared to the sump water level? My sump is elevated 16” since I hate bending to work in it- water level in first chamber is 25” from the floor. so I presume an external skimmer would have to have the intake at least 25” above the floor in order for it not to siphon water? Or, if the intake is lower, the output pipe would have to be at least 25” up?

any insight into this? Thanks

it has to be above the water level you want to keep in your sump. i had to put mine on a little stand to get the height i needed. Th at being said, it's the easiest, most reliable skimmer I've ever had. I love it

Still a work in progress, since I just moved and am rebuilding my fishroom, but my 29g+converted 125 has been great for the past 3.5 years. Making some changes but the layout is pretty much the same

Getting ready to add this sweet Trigger Sapphire 34 to my long awaited new DT. This will replace my old Aqueon Sump. What I hate about the Aqueon sump is the return chamber and skimmer are on top of each other. The skimmer has been hit and miss lately - water high, water low... if it overflows, all the skimmate goes right back to the DT. blech - no thank you. Sapphire will be mechanical sponge before sock - which I will replace with cups with carbon, etc.... then skimmer, then fuge...through the black course sponge to purigen as needed and to the return. Return will go to UV and away we go.
What skimmer are you using?

What skimmer are you using?
I was using a classic Reef Octopus on the old sump. I got a good deal on the Red Sea RSK 600, which I am now using on the Trigger Sapphire. I must say that I cannot speak more highly of the RSK. I had thought that it may be overkill but in true, it is easy to dial in, easy to clean and the built in drain nozzle is a life saver. THE RO is a classic but the bells and whistles on the RSK are a dream.
