Some great looking low tech tanks! Where's all the sps?

How about an SPS getting clobbered?

Although you might mean Acros in particular. Certainly doable in a mature 'simple setup' and I've had a few, but they were too aggressive, grew too fast and took up too much space in my small nano.

Mine is low-tech. No filter media, just a fuge. I dont dose just water changes every month or so. I dont even have doors on my stand.

I think there’s a correlation between low tech tanks being geared towards easier less picky corals. I just don’t really care for sps because I like movement. I only do soft corals now because I’m too busy to really put in the effort needed for anything that needs dosing regularly.

My thoughts exactly. I hate testing so watching alk and calcium would be too tedious for me. And I too love the flowing, swaying coral in the current.

I'm not exactly "low tech" as I do have 2 kamoer dosers. I also have an apex but it's really only used as a "safeguard" to let me know if something is drastically wrong. But no skimmer...just socks and rocks for filtration...dose alk, calcium and phosphate

I don’t like testing, I refuse to start dosing, I barely do any water changes. like a somewhat self sufficient tank that I think is nearly impossible with an SPS reef. I prefer softies and lps!

seriatopora and stylophora are low tech SPS. Mine thrive on no dosing, just water changes when i can.

Absolutely! I wasn't trying to say sps in a low tech tank was impossible. I was really just asking for people to post their pics!

This is awesome. Very close to my setup but much larger lol. I have a mixed tank that runs on a hob filter, heater, 2 powerheads and a light. Dose a little all for reef plus a 1/10th dose nopox and things are happy as can be. Sometimes I think a more simple setup is actually better for sps or other harder to keep corals.

Here's a pic of my desktop tank. It's usually not as loaded up with frags but I'm in the process of setting up a frag system in my basement and this is storage for now lol.

No, had an anthocaulus show up on some wild pacific liverock back in 2004. besides budding off babt plates additional anthocaulii budded off it. I was succesful gently removing one and move it to another system. Additionally I have had a couple anthocaulus show up on plates that died.
