Ok wrasse nerds,

I got this as a "male" M. Kuiteri. I think I see where it is beginning to transition male but this is the second fish I paid full price for a male and got a transitioned from live aquaria.

This transition can take months can't it?

Would you be mad?

LA is technically sending what you're ordering; a male is a male. Transitional male or terminal male is still a male, and they do not specify between the two on the site.

They have small and large male. This was a large male. Inherent assumption is that it's established male... I don't think I am unreasonable?

If I am to play devil's advocate, that may be a bad assumption. A female can transition at a small or large size, and therefore small or large does not necessarily correlate with transitional or terminal male.

I do understand your frustration, but at the end of the day, you did get what you ordered. (I'm actually impressed someone at QM is paying enough attention to spot the transitional males apart from the females)

This is one reason why many wrasse nuts, myself included (most of the time), will pay extra for WYSIWYG.

Bingo. I sympathize with you as well. I only buy WYSIWYG for this reason. I just wish my LFS were worth anything when it comes to getting atypical retail fish.

100% agree about wysiwyg and LFS. Thank God I live in a good LFS region.

My lfs here suck and are expensive as heck for diseased fish with zero warranty.

I would still assume the extra 50 bucks or whatever would buy me something

While I most often will pay for WYSIWYG it's almost always due to where it's coming from rather than the sex of the wrasse. Almost always Ill take a female these days regardless. Females ship better, adjust to tank life better and most times live longer too. It's also fun to watch them change.

I agree though, your paying for size, not transitional phase.

Do you think that top wrasse would get along with mine? or do you think its color is to close with this bottom wrasse?

They're cool but I guess there are other wrasse I like more. If I were adding a wrasse though I would probably go with a pintail

I don't believe you paid $75 for it. That would mean, the collector, the wholesaler and the LFS had no idea what it was.
