Let Me ID Your Wrasse!

Ok I got these wrasses yesterday. The bottom one on the picture is a scarlet flasher wrasse (paracheilinus lineopunctatus.) What I am curious about is the one on the top. Same top fins as a scarlet but the tailfin is like a royal flasher. Could this be a hybrid?

I would need to see a pic with the dorsal, anal, and caudal fins spread out, or at least more visible. Hybrids are a possibility, but it is more likely to be P. filamentosus or cyaneus.

Can I also get a positive ID of this juvenile fairy wrasse, it was sold to me as a juvenile cirrhilabrus katherinae. Is it? Was hoping it is a roseafascia

It's a female of the Cirrhilabrus in the temminckii complex from the Northern Philippines that is sold as katherinae, but in my belief is actually thesame fish as the Cebuan cf. temminckii.

I would need to see a pic with the dorsal, anal, and caudal fins spread out, or at least more visible. Hybrids are a possibility, but it is more likely to be P. filamentosus or cyaneus.

I googled the cyaneus and it does look like that. I'll try to snap a pic of it with all the fins displayed in the future as the fish might still be adjusting to the tank. It is just that I have never ever seen a cyaneus from all my trips to our local (Philippine) exporters.

Also on another topic, I have some question on how a flasher and fairy wrasse transitions or changes into Alpha Supermale. First, does a single individual transform into an alpha super male on its own or do they need females of the same specie or just lookalike females? Secondly, do existing alpha supermale (I have a cf. pintail one) stop this transition and keeps all the others at submale/female EVEN if they are not of the same exact species?

If you are in the Philippines than it is likely a filamentosus.

In aquaria fairy and flasher wraases tend to transition, even if males are present. Now, there is a difference between being a male and being a terminal phase, or super male. Depending on the tank dynamics only one or a couple of the most dominant males will become terminal phase.

But I think I see yellow at the posterior of the caudal? If so, and given that there are also dorsal filaments, I'm a bit inclined to believe you might be looking at P. bellae as opposed to a hybrid.

I agree with TJ's asertation. And I'd like to add it can't be roseafascia due to the presence of that almost-faded tail-spot.

In short, it's all about dominance and submission, and species doesn't much matter.
